I'll back who I want and bitch about them when they deserve it and right now they deserve it. You don't like what I'm posting then block me and you won't have to read it.

That's fair enough you disgruntled prick!.....Keep on bitching and Merry fucking Christmas.

I believe the plan was for Solak to play 3rd next season all along
That would keep them from looking as foolish as they would with Odor at 2B and Solak either on the bench or in the minors.

I don't know how anyone thought they were in on Rendon in the 1st place..........THEY WERE NEVER GOING TO ACQUIRE RENDON because they were never going to try to acquire him
They really knew how to short-arm their offer so it would not be accepted.

Why would they need to clear someone from the 40 for Gardner who was on their team last year? Did they already fill it as he was a FA to protect for the Rule 5 draft?

Yes they to roster some previously to protect from the draft. So signing Brett and Cole leaves 2 to get rid of. Abreau is one of them. Maybe more inclined to move 3B although to me I don't care much. Rather keep the powder dry or get abigger fish

Well according to E.G. They offered 6 guaranteed with an option vs 7 guaranteed by LAA. Sounds to me they played chicken as all others backed out and Halos did not blink.

If Rangers were not competing for his services, just wonder if they would have been so aggressive.

Obviously since Nats had already offered 7, you would think the Rangers would at least have that in their hip pocket. I hope they don't just go and bleed the farm now to pick up a piece.

I took it to mea He thinks the Rangers honestly thought he could be had with a contract shorter than 7 years.

I think if they misread anything, it was the fans reaction when they decided to offer Rendon just enough to be turned down.

Well once Philly and NYY paid for starting pitching, I thought they would be out of the market for Rendon with LAD being other long shot. Regardless still thought It would require a 7 year offer to sign during winter meeting.

Angels called their bluff. And we have not really stepped up to the table. Just don't want a stupid move to redeem ourselves

And according to Grant once given that offer Boras didn’t let Rangers come back with a counter offer and said they were out. Looks like they were predetermined Rendon was going to be an Angel.

So much for free market enterprise.

the difference between Texas and LAA is that Moreno had the balls to make this move and now he will have to add pitching like Bumgarner or Ryu or Keuchel or maybe even 2 of them and he'll do it, and the Texas ownership doesn't have any balls and never actually intended on signing Rendon.
hell, the top move of the off-season for the Rangers is the signing of Gibson followed by the signing of Lyles. that's it
I don't know if there is a baseball franchise that has blown more bad decisions than the Angels. From Wells to Matthews Jrs, to Hamilton to Pujols getting paid the huge 10 year contract for the time for okay stats to the massive contract for Trout who I think they should have traded for a decent return on players including pitchers not to mention hiring a statue like Ausmus.

they’re a joke. They won’t find enough pitching to win. They don’t really have good prospects to trade.

Just like the Yankees were not going to let Cole get away for the third time, Moreno was not going to let Rendon get away especially to the Rangers as this goes way back to when Moreno wanted Beltre real bad and the Rangers got him.

Angels and Moreno willing to spend to try for a division title even without pitching while the Rangers are unwilling to spend at all. Texas owners just pocketing money

Re Arte and Boras

It was just 11 years ago, after conversations fell apart between the Angels and All-Star first baseman Mark Texeira, that Moreno remarked to the Los Angeles Times of Boras: “My mother always told me, ‘If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all.’” Only eight years have passed since Jered Weaver agreed to a five-year, $85 million extension against Boras’ wishes, with no one from the agent’s Newport Beach office attending the press conference. Boras and Moreno still crossed paths, naturally – Boras long has held a dugout suite behind home plate at Angel Stadium – but some frost appeared to exist on the surface of the relationship.

Now, it appears things have changed. Boras spoke for an hour Wednesday in the courtyard of the Omni Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Montelucia during baseball’s annual general managers’ meetings and implied that those reports were exaggerated, with he and Moreno frequenting similar Orange County restaurants and often talking shop about the sport.

“It’s so distant, I don’t remember it,” Boras said. “I sit down with the guy every year. I see him all the time. We have a common restaurant that we run into one another at. I wouldn’t read much into it.”

With Boras representing several of this year’s top free agents, including the aforementioned Gerrit Cole, and with the Angels in desperate need of adding elite starting pitching, he and Moreno met for lunch recently, Boras said. Whether because of the passage of time or realigned interests, a barrier between the agent and the Angels appears to have been lifted.

Above Article excerpt I read. IMO Boras does have some influence to where different guys sign yet he represents many agents which to me could easily be construed as a conflict of interest. Perhaps sour grapes on my part as Boras is an Angels season ticket holder of a suite behind the plate.

Baseball was more of an even playing field in yesteryear. Now revenue sharing props up teams similar to the Generals vs Globetrotters. Almost considered a miracle KC won a WS

Owners make money while they tank. Something inherently wrong about that Yet I still love the game. SMH at myself

You think Jerry is more competent than JD as a GM?

When was the last Rangers drafted prospect to thrive in Texas? Gallo? Compare that to the Cowboys (Just about everyone except Cooper).

and the A's and Rays make the playoffs doing it that way. Rangers don't know how to do it
Because the Rangers are bi-polar. We want to pretend we are big time players and will go after the big fish, while really trying to minimize payroll at all costs. That leads to selling your cheap guys for the attempt at a homerun.

Or Boras told the Rangers the first time to give their best offer and they didn't go up to 7 like he asked. So he told them to get lost, the Angels gave his client what his client wanted so at some point you stop the back and forth and pick the winner. LAA was willing to do it, Texas wanted to pinch pennies.

LAA has a massive shitty contract coming off the books in two seasons, we have one coming off the books in one season. And LAA was willing to start the build now. I don't really mind that we didn't block Jung for 7 years, just hate the fake "we are gonna compete and get our guys" crap that JD spews. No, if you wanted to get your guy you would get your guy. What he means to say is "we are going to compete and get our guys if they will take a worse deal to play here", and they won't.
