I’m hearing it’s going to be Rees. Good lord what a shit show.

I can’t imagine they’ll be able to make adjustments for the bowl game. Glorious.

just remember Lou Holtz and Ara Parseghian were mediocre college players and great coaches. Maybe Tommy can fall into that group. (I’ve Always been an incurable optimist). Bob Diaco was a two time all Big Ten LB, and not much of a head coach.

Rees is the current QB coach, tho.

Exhibit A: Regression of Ian Book.

Sorry, I just don't have much confidence in this 'choice'.

Rees has been the QB coach for three years, and the two years that Book has been the starter. In those two years, Book’s touchdown totals have gone from 19 up to 33 and his interceptions have gone from 7 down to 6. In his last three games he has thrown 12 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. The regression does not seem to be so bad.

I think it’s a big leap to go from position coach to OC and be able to adjust on the fly in games. Also he doesn’t strike me as someone who can push back on any of Kelly’s worst instincts.

His numbers might be better, but I see a more erratic, less confident decision maker behind center that likes to get happy feet and throw wildly inaccurate passes from his back foot, instead of what we saw from his first year on the field. He's just not passing a very good eye-test, IMO.

I agree that going from position coach to OC is a big step. Urban Meyer was the WR coach at Notre Dame before he became the head coach at Bowling Green. There is little to no correlation between being a good player and being a good coach, in the same way that there is little to no correlation between being a good position coach and being a good head coach or coordinator.

his passing totals were significantly better with respect to both touchdowns and interceptions, and his rushing totals went from 280 yards up to 516 while his sack totals declined from 18 to 14. All this with a rushing attack that didn’t have a breakaway threat like Dexter Williams. I would love to see a similar improvement in all areas next year.

If Tommy Rees turns out to be a better pick than anybody else we may have had a choice on, then I guess I'll eat my words.

Sorry … I just don't see him making that jump.
