I’m failing to see any discernible benefit to the current ACC deal. I get that it was to protect basketball and non-revenue sports but they have to recognize that football should be the driver and it is not being well-served by this deal. First they are stuck scheduling 5 “conference” games and the ACC outside of Clemson is dog shit. So SOS takes a hit.

Second, we receive none of the benefit of the bowl tie-ins. 9-4 UVA (a team we beat handily) is going to the Orange over us.

I hear ya dude. But then the question goes to Then what:

-Join Big 10
-Join Big 12
-Go back to be an independent

Honestly. If we go back to an independent it will give trolls and haters vocal point to say "that we cant handle a conference schedule, thus we should never ever be allowed in the playoffs, no matter how good we are".

Fuck, I dealt with that alot last year for Ohio State homers here.

I just feel if we go back to independent, we are taking a step back.

Well this “in between” stuff isn’t really helping.

Staying independent gives us more control over our schedule, which is fine as long as we don’t try to manufacture wins.

But we’re getting screwed on bowl season unless we fully join and the majority of the fan base doesn’t want that, and for good reason.

Well...

I live as a minority so I'm comfortable with that and I think I understand the reason.

ND didn't beat UVa handily. UVa led at halftime, had 5 turnovers, and had more total yards.

A final score isn't always indicative of the entire game. Come on man, you know that.
I was at the game. UVA was effectively shut out the second half. Your QB still has nightmares of Julian Okwara running him down.

I don’t have a problem with the ACC deal. It’s good for all the other sports, and has been good for football until this year. But the problem this year was less about the ACC deal, and more about looking like crap against Michigan. We have played for the championship under this agreement, and it gives us visibility in Florida, Georgia, Virginia and the Carolinas for recruiting. I would rather have this affiliation that allows us to be independent for football than part of a deal that made us a firm member of the Big Ten or any other conference that would limit who and where we could play.

All I gotta say is I miss when Notre Dame played Big 10 teams, we play Wisconsin and Purdue coming up (finally), but I really miss the good old Traditional Purdue, Michigan, Michigan State, etc
