I always find these things incredibly stupid. Teams change from year to year so these SOS things to me are asinine.
Totally agree with you. And not even year to year but within a season. Sometimes match-ups are just bad for certain teams. NE at Miami has always been a weird match up for the Pats and last season's wild finish was just the latest. The Steelers went into Oakland and laid an egg that very well cost them a play-off spot looking back. You play the teams on the schedule and better be damn well prepared despite what their record is.

why is there such a big spread between teams in the same division? The 49ers have the 11th and the Seahawks are 25th and LA is tied for 27th? These teams have the same opponents. Does it have to do with road vs home games?

Home and away have no impact. The Rams impact is they ain't playing the Rams.

No not at all. Wrap your mind around this: LA and Seattle get to play AZ and SF twice,

Not a lot of thought into this, so there is a good possibility there is a major flaw in this thought, but

I feel a team that finished in 4th place should play the 4th place teams from the other conference.

Instead of playing 4 teams from the same division (like AFCE vs. NFCE)
3rd place teams play 3rd place teams & so on.

Which would also assist in preseason SOS.
