Guessing most want 8. Including those who cover the sport.

There are only two groups that matter in terms of expanding the playoffs. They are anybody with a C in front of their title that heads a Network and anybody with a P in front of their title that heads a University. Everybody else is just noise.

UGA and OSU could not have won it last year? Zero chance?
OSU in 17 or maybe auburn?
PSU, USC or maybe Oklahoma in 16
OSU in 15

Those are off top of my head.

UGA and OSU could not have won it last year? Zero chance?
You having watched the Buckeyes know the answer to this one. Georgia lost to Bama, why would we put them in.

OSU in 17 or maybe auburn?
Auburn lost 3 games and got beat bad by UGA in the SEC title game so not. Again, did you watch Ohio St that year. Miracles happen but cmon. Whooped by Iowa and Oklahoma was the better complete team. Again the defense wasn't up to par.

PSU, USC or maybe Oklahoma in 16
Again, Ohio St was better than Oklahoma. Penn St lost to Pitt and got demolished by Michigan, without a miracle play they have 3 losses.

OSU in 15...
This is the only year Ohio St could have been in and possibly competed, but still we are talking about a small chance but a chance. They lost to MSU in a brutal snowstorm but that team got absolutely dominated by Bama. The problem with Ohio St most of those years with J.T. Barrett, their offense had trouble in most big games competing against the best teams bc their offense was so stagnant and that QB draw was brutal. That's why they lost to Clemson so bad that one year, so yeah I don't think they have a chance vs Bama or vs Deshaun Watson and that Clemson team (we saw it the year after). If you watch Ohio St with JT you know this, if Ohio St has JT starting in that championship year, they likely don't beat Bama, lets just be honest.

We have gone over this before, trying to find a reason to put teams in that don't deserve it...isn't the best way to go. Trying to find reasons to put in a 3 loss team that doesn't deserve to be in will ruin college football and possibly games in the regular season as well championships. That is the last thing we need for this sport is for it to be a joke, like the NFL right now.

Okay, how about a new plan: 16 team playoff and keep ccgs. Big money, big fun! Selection committee puts in BEST 16 teams regardless of record or conference championships. Conference championships games still count as conference championships and fans get to cheer for their teams.

Round 1:
(1) Ohio State vs. (16) Baylor
(2)Clemson vs. (15)Iowa
(3)LSU vs. (14)Notre Dame
(4)Alabama vs. (13)Michigan
(5)Georgia vs. (12)Oregon
(6)Auburn vs. (11)Utah
(7)Penn St vs. (10)Penn St
(8)Oklahoma vs. (9)Wisconsin

I used ESPN FPI to seed, and the teams don't really matter. Upsets are possible and probable. Much like college basketball.

First round at neutral sites, second round At Orange Bowl, Cotton, Sugar and Peach Bowls, third at Rose and Fiesta, Championsip at rotating NFL Stadium. Say Soldier Field?

NO. Dumb idea

And we were once told no one who matters wants a playoff.

stay focused, my friend. Never said OSU or Georgia should have been in under the format. Just refuted your claim no one else could have won it

Clemson also had some bad losses in these seasons (I recall one to Syracuse). OSU lost to Va Tech. Guess neither could win it all, right?

Would be great if you just came up with one story and stuck to it....one day it's no one deserves it....another is no one could have won it....another it's they lost to a middling team so of course they couldn't win (never mind Clemson and OSU won after losing to middling teams).

Then of course the extreme comments that CFB will be ruined with expansion (as many said before the CFP as we know it was formed).

NFL a joke? Because you prefer college? Is it the better players you don't like? The rules for making the playoffs everyone knows going into the season? The best teams from various divisions and conferences playing each other? Annoyed by the higher TV ratings?

don't like some of the newer rules? I get it and agree.....but I also think the targeting rule in CFB is a joke.

:dingdingding:

And those two have mostly a symbiotic relationship. The ones with Ps in front of their titles will decide what to do based on the dollar number the ones with Cs in front of their titles are willing to offer.

You didn't read my earlier posts. This was sarcasm. The best four should be in. The best four are the current top4. You can't convince me that Oklahoma, Utah or Baylor is a better football team than Georgia. Bad loss aside, they beat Notre Dame, Auburn, Florida and Texas A&M (four teams that I think are better than Oklahoma, Utah and Baylor).

Why does anyone think a better team should be ranked higher because it is a better team? Better game results are what should matter.

Because "better team" they can make their claim with nothing but a guess and results use actual data?

I just do. Notre Dame did beat USC who beat Utah. Texas A&M has no losses outside top 10. Florida beat Auburn who beat Oregon and Alabama. So, no real logical reason.

If you want winning a conference to mean so much then a playoff is the exact opposite. Go back to the bowl games but dissolve half of them. You have to win at least 9 games or be a conference champion to compete in the post season.

Transitive property huh?

My Team Is Better Than Your Team - The Transitive Property of Sports

Texas Tech beat Oklahoma State
Oklahoma State beat Iowa State
Iowa State beat ULM
ULM beat Georgia State
Georgia State beat Tennessee

ergo, Texas Tech is better than Tennessee by a combined score of 234-143!

The conference championships are meaningful because without them 95% of the teams in college football have nothing to play for. If Virginia wins, they will have had their greatest season ever. Same could be said for Baylor and Utah, because they really have no shot to win it all. Give fans and players something to strive for that they can actually accomplish.

You're missing the point. No computer can tell us which team is better either. I watch college football and I think that the SEC is the premier conference. I watch college basketball and I think the ACC is the best conference. IMO, the four best teams are in order: Ohio State, Clemson, Georgia and LSU. I also THINK (just an opinion) that those four are significantly better than the rest. I think Oklahoma is way overrated. The Big12 is just not as good as the big10 or the SEC and that Oklahoma would finish outside the top 3 or 4 in either league.

My prediction for the CFP:

#1Ohio State beats #4LSU
#2Clemson loses to #3Georgia

#1Ohio State beat #3 Georgia.

I really think that there are only three teams with a chance, and LSU is not one of them. I would not be shocked if Georgia or Clemson won it all over Ohio State.

Nothing tells us who is better and nothing is suppose to tell us who is better. Teams should place and advance based on the value of their accomplishments and not simply because we think they are a better team. If they are a better team, that is only an advantage towards accomplishing more.
