There's nothing wrong with the system. You want to open at home in the playoffs then win the division.
Exactly...and no crappy division winner has done anything that I can recall in the playoffs in a long time...by anything I mean win the superbowl

The NBA has the best playoff format. The NFL's playoff format needs to be fucked with.
Where over half the teams get in, including multiple with losing records, when only 2-3 have any real chance? No, fuck that

I think the NFL playoff format is perfect. Divisions with crap records may be that way because of a tough SOS. If you just gave the top playoff spots to the teams with the best records, then those divisions that drew easy schedules would take the top spots. According to DVOA, Buffalo has had the easiest schedule by far. Do they really deserve to be the 3 seed?

How many times have you read the chicken shit response 'if you want to host then win your division'? Welcome to my neighborhood. It's dumb as fuck how they seed the playoff teams. I agree. However, I'm not on board with doing away with divisions. If the season ended today this is how I'd seed the playoff teams.:D

(1)BAL (10-2)*
(2)NE (10-2)*
(3)BUF (9-3)
(4)HOU (8-4)*
(5)KC (8-4)*
(6)PIT (7-5)

(1)NO (10-2)*
(2)SEA (10-2)*
(3)SF (10-2)
(4)GB (9-3)*
(5)MIN (8-4)
(6)DAL (6-6)*
*division leader

You're welcome, everybody.:thumb:

I would tweek your seeding just slightly. If you want to keep divisions then fine but that doesn't guarantee you a playoff spot.

Dallas could win the division but I would still put the Rams in the playoff at 7-5 over a 6-6 Dallas.

one of the national radio shows this morning mentioned that this topic is on the agenda with the next CBA so maybe it will get addressed.

I think dallas SHOULD BE IN A PLAYOFF GAME BECAUSE THEY WON THE FUCKING DIVISION.

IMO if 5th has a better record than 4th. They deserved to have a home playoff game.

Now answer this question:

"Is this because the your Vikings miss the playoffs because they are #6?"

Can you say that in English?

i would definitely NOT break up the divisions. The rivalries there are too important.

However, what they could do is award the division winner an automatic playoff berth but then just re-seed all of the teams after that. So, in that case, this year, the NFC East winner would be the #6 seed behind the 2 wild cards who have better records.

It's fair because everyone plays by the same rules and knows them going in. I'm sure my team would be much better off taking Dallas' place in the NFC East but not to be.

divisions also makes it easier to schedule teams/divisions.

Okay maybe it's fair because they all agreed to it but it isn't equal. Everyone should have an equal chance at the playoffs.

It's not equal if one team only has to win 8 games to get into the playoff and another team might win 11 games and not get in.

If they didn't make changes the year the 7-9 Seahawks hosted, and beat, the 11-5 Saints (beastquake anyone?), there is nothing that can go down that would.

They want the fight to win your division to be literally everything.

You play 14 common opponents during the season... with your division. It's the only measure they care about. A 9-7 team could simply be in a division with 3 solid teams while a 12-4 came through a crap division with 6 free wins.

That wildcards are there at all is a bonus. Don't want to travel to a shit stain div winner? Win your fucking division.

It's just a shame that you aren't getting the best teams in the playoff with this system.

And how to accomplish this when you don't know what teams will do BEFORE each season. sure it could turn out one team plays an easier schedule, but we don't know until they actually play the schedule.

FTR, I'd be down with reseeding once we have the 4 division winners and 2 WCs in each conference.

well, you can't really say your system would guarantee the best teams either because the teams don't play true round robins. every year, there is a team or 2 that gets a playoff spot mainly because of a very soft schedule.

The Cowboys could potentially go 8-8 and still win the division and host a playoff game.

What is wrong with this playoff system?

I wish they would simply get rid of divisions and let the top teams play each other and the bottom teams play each other.

At the end of the season, the top 6 teams get in the playoffs. None of this division crap where a crap team like the Cowboys get to host a playoff game.

Division play is great and should matter. Forget the Patriots and the AFC East but how long have the Rivalries in the AFC North, the NFC East etc given us good football.

That's a very good point. You can't have a round robin because there are too many teams.

I still think it would be more enjoyable however to see the teams with the most wins seeded at the top of the playoff heap.

We aren't? Again, it's not possible to completely compare teams from one division to another. The entire goal of the system is to compel very strong division rivalries and find a true division champ. ×8. We do indeed get that.

We don't have enough cross play to always classify the next best.

You get the best from every division and the next two best from each conference. It's as fair as they are going to get.

That the second best team in a conference has to go on the road agaisnt a lesser team just isn't a problem. You didn't win your division and still have a path.

I really don't see the problem here. It's the best system you can make for a football playoff format.

No issues at all with system for reasons you gave.....though not opposed to reseeding once they have the playoff teams based on current setup.

There really is no logical reason why a shitty division winning 8-8 team gets a home field playoff game over a 12 win type wild card team. Zero.
