I hope they give it to him. That will limit what the cowboys can pay their other players.

Prescott isn't close to a 40 million a year player and with the draft class coming out next year the cowboys can find a good young QB a lot cheaper.

Draft Herbert, Patterson, or some other and franchise Dax for 1 year. Problem solved.

Exactly why you make Zeke play out his contract.

The most they will get out of Elliott is 6 games a year until his contract is up but that's not going to happen because they will give him a new deal by mid-October.

I'm aware of the roster guarantees, which is actual like no guarantee really. Be interesting to see how that plays out. However I doubt going forward players are going to accept fake guarantees and my point is from the team point of view it's risky to resign a RB to a huge second contract, much less do it before you must, especially if the player threatens to not honor his first contract.
There were no fake guarantees. Gurley was guaranteed $22M on this deal. If the Rams wanted out after February - that was it. If they wanted to keep him after that they then had to guarantee him another $18M which is the contract for years 2 & 3 in this deal. The contact is 3 years for $40M with $1M yearly performance bonuses. The Rams have option years for the following 2 years. Overthecap listing it as a 6 year deal and a $14.7M average is just misleading. Gurley getting $40M over 3 years was about $3.5M more than I expected, (even before the bonuses), but to be honest the guarantees are low. In real terms about 1.5 years are all that's guaranteed at any time. Compare it to LG Saffold who the Rams lost as a FA. He signed a $44M/4 year deal with $22M guaranteed. As a fan i'd take Gurley's deal over Saffold every time. I liked Saffold but he doesn't win you games.

No he can't lose out on $8.9M. I think you are counting the current year apportionment of the signing bonus he received when he signed. His salary is only $4.3M. Dak's is $2M. It's double of course and he has already made a lot more money, but $2M more for this season when we are talking $150M contracts isn't that much of a difference. I'm betting neither considers holding out this year.
I am definitely and absolutely counting the current year apportionment of the signing bonus because a team can claw a proportion of it back if a player holds out. The Cowboys can, (and should), do the same with Elliot. In Prescott's case the signing bonus is negligible.

I agree that in Goff's case it's not a lot more money, (which is why he should consider it). There are other financial differences. Goff's money this year is fully guaranteed whilst Prescott's isn't. Goff's money for 2020 is guaranteed for injury whilst Prescott has no contract for 2020.

I still expect both to be extended in the near future...without holding out.

Every team that has a QB (meaning every team) should hope Dak doesn't get this. Stafford can tear up his contract after next year. Good luck with his deal if he does that. Or would you let him walk?

Quinn would let him walk. He has never won a playoff game. But I see the new norm drafting a QB on the cheap give them 1 maybe two contracts and move on. Baker Mayfield is a bargain and allowed Cleveland to sign and trade for top end talent.

IMO gone are the days of allocating 30-40 mill for a QB. I would rather have Josh Allen or Baker Mayfield on rookie deals than Stafford, Carr, Dalton, or Prescott on 30 plus million dollar deals.

So if you don't suck and pick in the top 3 (maybe 10?) picks what do you do? With health and Zeke back Cowboys are picking in or around the 20's.

I feel like Dak would do amazing if he had a great head coach, he’s not the problem with the Cowboys and he’s a good QB but he needs someone to put him over the top and Garrett obviously isn’t that.
