will some want more? Sure, but pretty sure they'll be good with 8 and most will think 8 is fine (as seems to be the case here).

seemed most discussions I was in the majority also wanted 8 from the beginning. They didn't want 4 and now want 8.
There are people in this very thread who also agree with what I said. The debates were intense and real. We were assured 'and one' was all that was needed. 5 is too far down. It was the dominating opinion on every conversation. The few that wanted even more or wanted it to stay the same were the minority.

There is no doubt people will again bark for more after 8.

Why? Because people are looking at the wrong fixes for the real things that are bad in the sport. It's inevitable it will continue as each of these things that still break it a bit more fail to satisfy the intent.

Agree, asked if you were thinking about 70s and early 80s as if you don't remember you'd be shocked if you looked at past schedules (though sounds like you are old enough to remember). Many teams would play 2-3 OOC games against tough teams every year. Good times as far as that goes.
Wait, so you agree OOC was better in the polling era, which is what I've said, but the CFP has improved it? That means you believe it got worse during the BCS and now flipped back.

There are a great many things that have changed in the last 20 years that probably as a whole have lead to some of it. Which is why I suggested looking for supporting articles that did the leg work for you.

I can live with or without the CCGs but agree uniform scheduling would be great. Don't care if it gets done before or after we go to 8....or even if we never go to 8.
Then why do you still want to keep arguing?

And it's my opinion that is stupid. I think we've covered all of this.
Yep...and like most in the Anti-8 Crew you get angry and flustered if anyone disagrees with Love how you wrote that. Reads that your opinion is stupid. Priceless.

Is it stupid they might allow round 1 to be home games for top 4?
That teams will try in their OOC games in that setup to help them be a top 4 seed and play at home?
That teams might schedule tougher OOC knowing they can lose one and still make CFP winning CCG?

Bigger field. FCS is 24 teams and it’s great.

Yes, was better in late 70s and 80s. Never thought otherwise. Got worse up to the BCS and through it even. Did NOT get worse in the CFP era we are in as you have implied.

Hate to break it to you, but you are the one looking for an argument and that's fine.

Yes, I agree I would like uniform scheduling. Never said at any time I don't want uniform scheduling. Even told you this. Made a comment as well about the tough scheduling from back in the day....you chose to start an argument again. which is fine. I clearly like a good sports debate...but I never accuse people of arguing while I argue with them.

I disagree with you in that I PREFER they go to 8 teams.

The entire problem with this thread is that the conference championships do matter. They matter to the fans and the players that play in them. They will get much higher ratings than Wetzel's first round playoff games. Who's going to watch Memphis/Ohio State over Wisconsin/Ohio St?

Also, does anyone think that anyone outside of the current top 4 can make a case that they would have a chance to win the playoff? Do you really think Utah or Oklahoma is going to beat Ohio St and Clemson or LSU to win the championship?

Maybe not this year but often there are seasons with multiple team’s that could win it

while I don't necessarily think CCGs should go, I do think ratings would be as high or higher for majority of first round CFP games (in field of 8) than the CCGs.

I don't know about that. First of all, if you count the AAC and the MVC, you are substituting 4 games for 7.

Here's what a hypothetical eight-team College Football Playoff would look like if the sport's brass changed their outdated thinking. (Yahoo Sports illustration)

I can't see any of these matchups getting higher ratings than the top 4 ccgs. Possibly Clemson/OU or UGA/UU, but I'd still rather see UGA/LSU and OhioST/Wisc.

Please name one. Actually, the only team outside of this year's current top four that might have a chance is Alabama.

Dan Wetzel's a fool anyway. He did not have Memphis ranked in his preseason top20 in basketball and thought they should have kept Tubby Smith.

Hence why I said maybe not this year. Oklahoma could definitely beat 2-3 of those playoff team’s on a good day

I asked you to name another year that there was a team outside the top4 that could have won the NC.

It would have to a really good day and really bad day for the other team.

Get rid of bowl games because they're stupid, commercialized crap.

Give the NC to whichever team averages the highest score on a scholastic exam.

I'm actually more serious about that than the answer would seem.

Our universities are broken. Everything indicates most schools push students through to a degree like fast food...they get an empty calorie diploma if they pay the price and move-along quickly.

Anything to show schools take themselves and students seriously, and aren't just in it for a buck, would be a positive change. Fucking bowl games are an insult to what universities are supposed to be.

well, i absolutely agree that the Universities are broken, when you take into account what they've become, vs. what they once were and were intended to be.
