Montalban starting another racially motivated thread.
The absurdity and danger of this Cancel Culture nonsense with freedom of thought and expression silenced by fear has to be brought to light. Does anyone really believe there was any maliciousness in this comment?

No, there was no malicious intent and he did issue a heartfelt apology.
However, it was wrong and there is no defending what he said. Subtle racism is still racism. The color of a person's skin should never, ever be relevant. Not to mention, it was an utterly stupid comment to begin with.

Lamar Jackson is a blast to watch. Very much like Vick I'm rooting for the guy, I just don't think it'll last. I called him a bust, but I'd be very happy if he proves me wrong (his style would change football forever, much like Vick).

I don't, and I also think he might be onto something...from the Press Box, on an overcast rainy day.

As an excuse for players on the field? It was a stupid comment imo.

It's just a stupid thing to say...

This. It's an incredibly bad and stupid take.

And yes, it's racist on a number of levels. The black skin thing itself is insane. But think deeper about it and you see something more racist, which is that some people can't admit he might actually be good at football.

Stupid comment but not a racist one.

All he said was Jackson had dark skin which anyone with a working set of eyes can see that's the case. There really wasn't any malice behind the comment in terms of Jackson being black.

In context I can see the point he was trying to make in that being black, wearing a black uniform, in poor weather conditions makes it tougher for the defense to tell if he has the ball or not but it's still stupid point and a poor homer excuse as to why the defense didn't do a better job of defending the option.

The 9ers defense did a bad job of defending the option because the ends just crashed down the LOS leaving the outside open. They adjusted to it in the 2nd half hence why the Ravens went scoreless the entire 2nd half until the final seconds to get the game winning FG.

Racist comment is pretty accurate. I don't know if that was his angle, maybe it was, but just hearing the take I didn't come away thinking that. Stupid definitely fits.

On you point in bold...hand raised...clearly he proved to be as fast as advertised and had a decent arm as a rookie, but I didn't see him having this kind of success in year two...I don't think anyone did outside of Baltimore. IMO he's still going to need some growth as a passer (he's not going to be that fast and shifty his entire career) but the kid is pretty good.

Bold...bingo!

Most of the time we attribute a racist comment to be negative...in this case it wasn't. I know you know this, I'm just saying it out loud...He used skin color in a descriptive manner to make a point about the effectiveness of Jackson's ball fakes.

Getting back to the game...of course weather was a major factor, but was that second half adjustment a sneak peak into stopping or at least slowing down the Ravens? I'm sure every DCs that expects to face them this year has, or will comb over that tape.

Obviously he should not say that, but this is interesting. What if he just said he is helped out by the dark uniform and didn't mention the skin color. Would his comment be treated differently? I like to try and infer intent and I don't think he had racist thoughts in his mind when he said this but I am of course only going off my reading of the story. Lest my comments be misconstrued, I'm also not stating I agree with him.
