We need to find a replavcement for PSView. Sounds like Youtube TV is the way to go. Just one more thing to ensurethat Google owns our entire lives.

YoutubeTV….idk if you got it yet or not, but a yr and a half into it, I'm pleased. There was a price increase from $39.99 to $45.99 after a yr, that made me take notice, but I'm still okay with the service. I figure if I went out and got all the apps we watch individually, even with the free ones, I would pay more than $46 a mo.

The key is having a strong wifi if you have multiple devices running at once...we have Fiber 1000, (1Gig) I think 7 or 8 devices running is the max we've had going at one time.

Gigabit is overkill for streaming, the router is what will bottleneck you if you are limiting it to wifi as the wifi bandwidth is a shared total which is still usually more than enough for any household. Hardwired connections are best especially if you have independent 1Gbps up and 1Gbps down on all ports switches/router.

I have had YTTV since it came here and have enjoyed it more than PS Vue. They also finally added some other channels like TLC for the wife so we were able to drop Philo ( it was worth it for nick jr and such as long as the wife needed TLC)

Thanks

2 of my TVs are connected via ethernet...plus my Pre/pro and music server are ethernet...phones, tablets, PCs are all wifi. I'm not sure what my golf buddy has, but it's less than a Gig and they are struggling with streaming....maybe they are connected vis wifi.

I'm okay with $110 a mo for internet and TV apps....less than half of what were paying.

Oh for sure. Too many people dont realize that wifi is essentially connecting all your devices to 1 port on your router.

Have your buddy do a speedtest and see what comes up hardwired and over wifi that will tell the tale.

Ahhhhhhhhhh island i guess you said that i took it figuratively but shoulda dawned on me duh florida lol

Still amazing they h avent dropped fiber lines yet i mean they dont have to offer gigabit but the more fiber the bring to the area the higher speeds you can get some have ran fiber but only have the infrastructure for 300Mbps not full gig speeds but fiber is still great on latency too
I'm actually in Curacao, an island close to Venezuela. The ISP here has a monopoly, so no rush to upgrade. I suppose I should be happy for the connection that I have, but I really miss having good internet.

My ATT install tech didn't quite explain it like that, initially he was just running wifi speedtest all over the house. I told him the music server required an ethernet connection because some of the hi res files are too large for wifi and the system would bog down, etc. Once it was mentioned that we'd be streaming our video content 100%, he suggested the two main TVs be hardwired.

Yep wifi is total up and down burden where as most quality routers will have gigabit up and gigabit down per port so if you have a 5 port router it is a 10 gigabit router if you were to equate it to wifi terms (simple terms here)

Wifi can be good depending on your situation. a 5 person house with multiple leves and 6 or more tv's it just isnt practical when you include 5 tablets 4 cell phones etc. For a single person where they are maybe doing either or and they are the only one using their internet it will do the job nicely (unless of course they are in a heavily saturated area and wifi channels are overlapping and sometimes canceling signals out)

Wifi is not consistent at all speed wise even with just 1 device. There are always ups and downs. I find the hardwire speed is consistent all the time. I even have a high gain router and still see reductions at times. I started hard wiring and said this is crazy so I am going the MOCA route.

This can be due to other routers in the area, most newer routers try to find their own channel but sometime it is too saturated, that is one reason i love that 5Ghz doesnt have the range of 2.4 i have 4 switches 2 each end of the house 1 mid and one at the router

ATT is owned by DirecTV. Last time I had them here was 2013 and two days after they were done upgrading all of my DirecTV stuff, my house was robbed and they got all of my wife's hand-me-down family jewelry, my coins and cameras. Of course, nothing was scheduled and I lost about $30,000. I stay with Comcast Techs when they come now.

Up here we don't have any competition for the internet. Comcast is King. Hughes has a bit but the service sucks big time. Dish and DirecTV don't offer internet. Bunch of people I know, use their work internet to get a gmail or yahoo account. Verizon is trying to break in but they bought a FIOS system and there isn't much of it wired around the northeast. The FCC made them stop advertising availability where there is none.

I bought a couple of ROKU units for a guest room that doesn't have a cable connection and my grandson who watches youtube and a couple of other channels.

Other way around ATT owns Directv. Their streaming service reflects their sat service, overpriced and under performs in my opinion

As far as internet keep watching because more have been entering the space lately even ones ive never heard of until i hear they are offering fiber in lincoln

@NU_FTW caught it...you meant ATT owns DirectTV.

Wow...so sad the break in...sucks!

Comcast is the cable provider assigned to our area and we had them for several years. Once we dropped cable/internet to go with ATT fiber for internet only Comcast really started pushing their highest speed internet with a free bundler (basically like youtubetv...about 30 or 40 channel apps.

I can see us going back to them for that internet and free bundler, but not anything soon.

The "assigned cable provider" here used to be Adelphia. Then Rigas got thrown in jail, and Comcast bought them out. They re-branded it as "Spectrum", apparently because Comcast's reputation precedes them.

I had internet/cable/VOIP for a number of years, and finally dropped the cable in large part because of my viewing habits. I don't watch enough cable to make it worth what any company charges these days.

Ever since I cancelled, Spectrum has been sending me "new special offers" almost every week. The amusing part is all the "new" offers are exactly the same - $44.99 for cable with no contract for 2 years. The latest one came in an envelope with "Lower Your Monthly Bills with this Exclusive Offer" on the outside. I still haven't figured out how paying $45/month more would lower my bills.

In a year you will probably have a Satellite offering from SpaceX. Sucks for Verizon that they have to actually be honest about there product:heh:

I am just talking 5G. I also have it on its own channel. Its fine for anything other than streaming and gaming and I dont game so its not a huge issue. Still want the wired connections for TV and work computer though.

So if you don't have cable, where are you getting your internet feed? Is your house a WiFi Hotspot? I pay about $200 a month for Cable, Internet and a land line telephone in a 'Triple Play' package. I pay for the "Premium" and get the movie channels and Sports package. I hate paying for it but, I'm not a techie and I have physical disabilities that restrict what I can do with my hands and feet so climbing up on my roof to install antennas is out of the question. I do have a satellite dish up there that I disconnected because my internet bill had crossed the $100 a month plateau. Then I pissed off everyone in about a quarter mile of my house. I put a password on my WiFi connection because I have a 5GB modem. Everyone all around me was using my signal. There an 8 unit condo behind my house and they were all out on their decks bitching that they lost the "Home-B222" signal and they needed a 'f*ckin' password' for the new one "BigKen0250". I walked out to the fence and asked them what the problem was and they told me they couldn't use their laptops and that their TV signals were screwed up. One of them asked me if I was having problems and I said, "no, everything is perfect." I told them I had the password for BigKen and they asked me for it. I said, it's simple.....each of you pay me $20 a month on the first of every month and I'll give you the password.......Oh yeah, I'm BigKen and I was born in February (02)19(50). I'm paying $100 a month for the internet and you've been using mine for free.......sorry, no more Mr. Nice guy.

Nice neighbors! LOL.

Nice neighbors! LOL.

Hey, what can I say. Two of them had a Great Dane. The condos have hardwood stairs to the second floor. The Dane slipped and fell and broke both front legs. They couldn't afford a vet so they put it in the garage and didn't feed it and let it die. Not very bright. Instead of wrapping it up in a construction trash bag and burying it somewhere, they bitched to a neighbor about not being able to get rid of the body. The neighbor talked to another neighbor who is an animal lover. Being arrested, getting a lawyer and being fined $10,000 and getting tossed in jail for 30 days for cruelty to an animal was bad, but two people also lost their jobs.

First, should have gated the stairs
Second, You should have sucked it up and paid the vet, even to put the dog down.
Third, you never tell anyone you committed a crime
Fourth, Don't ever get another pet.
Fifth, Thank you for being so stupid you had to move somewhere else.

ALSO LMFAO at your neighbors.

I am surprised you didnt have your router locked down earlier.

One last thought i know this is my 2nd reply to the same message but you dont have to be a techie to do things like Sling TV, Hulu Live TV, Youtube TV, AT&T Now, FUBO TV, Philo, etc if you can install an app on your smart phone you can do it on your tv.

The best for these particular services is probably Roku due to them being neutral parties in the google vs amazon war. It took forever for that one to end and by the time it ended iw as tired of Amazon and replaced fire tv's in half the rooms with Roku TV's but now they have Youtube TV on Fire TV as well.

If you dont want to change out your tv's for built in smart function Roku has the Ultra or Ultimate or whatever which is stand alone box. Androids best is the Shield TV but is a bit pricy. and Amazon has the Fire TV which for the price and what you would use it for is quite nice though i wouldnt get the sticks and not sure if they even make the Fire TV box that has ethernet ports built in last one i saw you needed to buy an adapter( my philosophy is to get as much on hardwired network as possible so all my tv's but 1 are hardwired so are all the computers and xbox's etc)

There are certain channels people need as a minimum. I'd like to lighten up on my VZ FIOS bill soon but, for example, I must have access to both live CNN and my local sports channel, NBC Sports. Can you or anyone else here say where I can get CNN?
