At some point, not necessarily in this case, but at some point, we are going to have to find a way to consistently rise above almost all of those other teams. You can't get anywhere living in the midst of 29 "other" teams. As well as 29 other teams
That may be true for most of the quality FA's. But I'm sure we will sign somebodiesI don't think they ever intended to step up to the plate.
Looks like punishments will be finalized before opening day. I think MLB will making a statement that they are policing but doubt if other teams will be pursued. Unfortunately this has to do with image. But yes I would venture that Astros are main culpritRob Manfred is about to drop the hammer on the Astros. The Rangers, along with the rest of the AL West, will be the beneficiary
What appears to be clearer: The hammer is about to fall on the Houston Astros. And it will smash their little video cheating operation to smithereens, if not wreck the entire organization.
There was a growing sense among owners and executives that the Astros are about to suffer severe penalties extending beyond fines, the loss of a draft pick or the loss of international cap space. And, yes, that potentially means general manager Jeff Luhnow and manager A.J. Hinch.
On Tuesday, before the meetings began, Manfred suggested he could levy penalties beyond the fines and draft pick forfeiture he warned of in 2017. On Thursday, he wasn’t backing off from that.
“I take myself seriously. I do,” Manfred said in a wrap-up media conference. “I think that when [technology-aided sign stealing] began to bubble up during the ’17 season, I looked backward at how the issue had been dealt with. … I wrote what I wrote because I did not believe that the disciplines that had been handed out in the past were in line with the significance of the issues that we were dealing with. So I do view [the public statement] as a line of demarcation.
“Clubs were on notice,” Manfred added when asked to further explain. “However the commissioner’s office has dealt with these issues historically, going forward, I viewed them with a particular level of seriousness.”
