I will say that there was obviously a lot of fanfare when Babcock came in, and people may have thought it was an overreaction from Leaf fans but holy shit did you see the 4 guys who preceded him?
He did a lot of good, he laid down a great foundation in a season where they finished dead last (and that may be the only time in history a sentence like that ever makes sense) and the road back to the playoffs was accelerated with his help. At the same time, you expect some blow back from your players but if Mirtle's source is correct that's almost impossible to make work in this day and age.
Combine that with the constant calling out of his GM in the media and his inflexibility with his lineup there wasn't much room for this to right itself.

Players shoulder a hell of a lot of blame but it's pretty hard to ignore that in one game Keefe had them do almost everything everybody was telling Babcock to get them to do and it worked to a T.
And there's of course players who can say "well, if only I had been given the ice time...". You know, grinder guys like...
And that was without any power plays.
