I hope that works out for the Braves, but free agent relievers on multi-year contracts are awfully risky.

Each MLB Team's Biggest Free-Agency Fail of the Past Decade
funny thing is on that list is the guy the braves just got:suds:

Multiple outlets report that Mark Melancon will remain the closer to begin the year for the Braves even after the signing of Will Smith.
On Thursday, the Braves signed Will Smith to a three-year, $39 million contract with an option for the 2023 season. Many assumed that would mean that Smith would begin the year as the stopper, but that doesn't appear to be the case. Keep in mind that Atlanta is going to pay Melancon $14 million in 2020 before he hits free agency, and that the 34-year-old saved 11 games after coming over from the Giants in 23 appearances. Lots can change over the course of a season, but for now, it appears Smith will be used situationally while Melancon will get the ninth inning to begin the campaign.

Chris Martin back to the Braves. Not a fan. He strained his pussy in game 1 and then Luke Jackson was brought in.

Honestly that was less than I was expecting for Grandal. I think it's a good signing.

They could be legit contenders for the Central if the Twins and Indians don't improve.

The White Sox are about a year or two ahead of the Tigers ... they are ready. The Twins year last year was amazing ... can they repeat? The Indians may be in trouble (especially if they trade Lindor).

Good signing by the White Sox with Grandal. He's one of the best catchers in baseball.

Villar's a good player. I expect him to get scooped up quickly.

really don't get it from the padres perspective

I like the trade for a reason that hasn't been brought up. Urias can play 2nd and Hiura move to first. Pair this with resignong Thames and make him an everyday OF(hopefully returns to 2018 form or close). Leaves 3B yet to fill. Also a big need for Milwaukee was a LH pitcher. Not a great one but serviceable.

Yeah the trade makes more sense from the Brewers perspective.

I think Strasburg will sign a short term deal with the Nats.
