The only reason Seager is untradeable is because of his contract. Everyone said the same with Verlander until the Tigers ate enough of the money. If the Mariners paid 90% of the contract he is very tradeable. And no better time in Mariners history is it that the Mariners can afford half of their salary dedicated to people not on the roster.

Gordon being gone is fine but his return is going to be less than what Seager can get if the Mariners toss money in equally. Gordon is at best a role player on a contender. Seager is a starter on a contender and has proven for at least 2-3 months of a season can carry an offense.

Agreed regarding Seager's contract, but I feel like Verlander is a poor comparison. Verlander plays a more important position, has a better track record and somehow turned things around. We've talked about the ownership thing extensively but I'll say I doubt they'd eat so much of Seager's contract.

Gordon is about as good as gone and I'm hoping that Seager plays like he did in the second half of 2019 for the entirety of 2020 because if he does we could trade him without eating as large of a portion of his contract as you suggested.

I have a love/hate with these lists. I look at them every year and love them, but then go back 4 or 5 years to see how those turned out. They are more miss than hit. I do think they are right with these guys in comparison to the rest of the prospects.

In 2015 the #5 Prospect by MLB.com was J.P. Crawford. Devers #13, Judge #17, Bregman #21.

How are they bad comparisons? No one wanted Verlander because of his contract either. Detroit did what Seattle should do with Seaver’s and eat most of the contract. A team will gladly take on a player of Seagers caliber if they are only paying $2 million a year for him. It’s just getting ownership to eat the money.

Gordon may be gone but just putting a ball club together having Gordon is more valuable than Seager. Gordon can play a few different positions, can pinch run or pinch hit in a bunting situation. Plus from all accounts Dee is great with younger players, not saying Seager isn’t but you don’t have players around the league raving about how great Seager was to them.

Rodriguez should be the Mariners number 1 prospect.

I don't think you need to worry about them bashing the ball out of the yard all the time.
Safeco is big and deep in the alley's, but the ball in the gaps and let the speed take off.

That of course if they hire a 3rd base coach that will take the stop signal off from time to time :L

I could be wrong on this but according to Baseball-Reference, the Tigers only ate $16m of Verlander's contract. I also just believe that Verlander was a much more valuable addition than Seager would be unless he continues playing like he did in the second half of 2019. I do definitely agree that a team will take on Seager if the club ate a huge portion of his contract, but I don't think that's very likely.

I'm biased when it comes to Gordon because I like him a lot, but the league has shifted away from players of his type. I do agree that he would be an amazing addition as a utility guy.

Okay I got one for you what if they bring back a former baby Mariner, Pineda?

I'd actually be in favor of it since he might not command a big contract and we need some arms for the rotation. I think I saw a projection that he'd be looking at a two year contract which would be good for us on a prove-it deal.

Interesting read here for those of you who have The Athletic:

A Mitch Haniger trade: Here's a proposal that fits needs of...

If you don't or don't want to read the entire article - it's a back and forth between the Mariners Athletic writer and the Indians writer - the proposal would be the following:

Mariners send:
- Mitch Haniger
- Dee Gordon
- Ray Kerr
- Cash considerations

Mariners receive:
- Aaron Civale
- Eli Morgan
- Yu Chang

I like the proposals proposed by Lookout Landing more, but I think this is more realistic considering this article was the equivalent of two beat writers playing GM and trying to do what's best for the teams they write for.

Civale could be the bottom of the rotation, Morgan hasn't seen the bigs and could fall into the class of 2021.

I don't know it seems to be a winner for the Indians..

Pass for me. Big hall or keep him and this to me is not a big hall. Losing Gordon's salary for one year isn't a huge savings especially for a team not looking to add much this year.

Im totally ok..

As long as there is no draft pick
Compansation
I even think
He could work..as a long term.
Middle of order guy..
And then
When gilbert and kerby make it up..then be the 5 starter..
So..

I also think shedding a year of Gordon salary is not worth selling low on Haniger
