Idk. Folks here really have a hard time caring about anything that isn't CFB. Alabama is hell on pro sports. Shit! We've got a heavyweight champion here and many don't seem to realize it.
What planet do you live on?

I would imagine this would be the first pro game ever in Alabama?

No sir. The Jets (with Namath) and the Patriots played a Regular Season Game @ Legion Field in 1970. Plus, Birmingham has had several professional teams of their own in the WFL (Americans), USFL (Stallions), etc.

I should've clarified to mean NFL, but I didn't know that about that 1970 game either. Interesting.

The Boston Patriots were looking for a new home and gave Birmingham a shot. The fans all pulled for the Jets (because of Namath), and off to Foxboro they went. OR, so the story goes!

It’d have to be:

the Bills vs the Cardinals at Alabama

the chargers vs the panthers at Notre Dame

Makes the most sense

For Alabama, if they had a game like Dallas/NO/Tennessee vs. Atlanta I could see it doing well.

For Notre Dame, maybe Chicago vs. Indianapolis?
Yep. This is exactly right. It would depend on the teams.

Several years ago the Dallas Cowboys held a controlled intersquad scimmage in the Sun Bowl. Sold it out in a day. When Dallas plays in Glendale the Cowboy fans from EP (and there a lot of them) buy up every ticket they can because it is 150 miles closer than Dallas.

Had any other team tried to sell tickets to a controlled intersquad scrimmage, they might have gotten 5,000....and that's a stretch.

Can't imagine they put the biggest NFL rivalry in a neutral site. Game means too much to both sides.

What is the point of doing these games on neutral sites, to raise interest, NFL fans don't even want to see Chicago/Indy why would non NFL fans?

Because they are the local(ish) teams.

The NFL is a National Game, and New Orleans vs. Atlanta would not be a bigger draw than any other match-up in Tuscaloosa. The real draw would be having teams with former Alabama stars on them.

We could've been absolutely insufferable when it comes to football in this state.

Many, many years ago the NFL used to play exhibition games at college sites. Especially in cities where there were
no NFL teams.

When I would watch the NFL, which is decades ago, I went to a unique Friday Nite, Saturday nite pair here in
Florida. The Redskins played the Colts in Tampa on a Friday night and on Saturday night the 49er's played
the Jets up in Jax. Good crowd in Tampa but pretty sparse in Jax. (Some things will never change)

South Bend makes no sense.

It's surrounded by NFL cities that are not much of a drive. The excuse of "growing the game" wouldn't apply. Does seat a few thousand more than Lucas Oil and 15K or so more than Soldier Field.

PreSeason game could make sense for the novelty. Pointless in the regular season.
