He wasn't a good fit because he wouldn't work hard enough when needed and wanted to be a bigger part of the offense then he was capable of handling. Add in his "just want to have fun" head space he was in at the time and it was unavoidable disaster pairing him with Kobe.

Melo has gotten a bad rap for no real reason. He is what he is, an aging scorer that doesn't bring much else to the table at this point. To get practically black-balled is ridiculous.

I agree re: Dwight.

Not so much re: Melo.

Dwight's attitude when he got to the Lakers definitely wasn't going to work with Kobe. Also, Dwight thought it was going to be his team.

On Melo, I think teams stayed away from him because he continued to think he was a starter and an all star when he no longer was.

If, like Dwight, he's willing to accept a lessened role...it could be good for the Blazers.

As a Syracuse fan, I will always be a Melo fan at some level. I can admit to being homeristic a bit, lol.
You know what, I will wish him the best, but if it doesn't work out - He has had a pretty good run and he made his money-- so I won't lose any sleep over it either way:lol:

That is very true, but I don't like seeing guys forced out before their time. There are worse players in the league for sure.

I like that Melo is getting one more shot. But I would have no sympathy for him if he didn't get one. He forced himself out by not accepting that he's not an All Star caliber or even a starting caliber player anymore.

That's the rumor, but we don't really know that. He had reporters asking him if he was coming off the bench when he clearly wasn't asked to do that by his coach (or he would've answered differently).

Might be a dumb/obvious question but is Melo a future HOFer?

I'm indifferent to Melo. But the announcers tonight can't stop making excuses for him.

I'm with Trojan on this one I gotta say. He'll get in but not First Ballot

It is the National Basketball HOF. Not the NBA.

He had probably the best run with team USA in recent memory (3 gold medals I believe) and won a title at Syracuse.....and he was a top 3 offensive player most of his NBA career

He got Dirk and Dwade out of the way for a crowded ballot.

If he retires after this year, he goes in with Vince.

Grant Hill and Ray Allen were first ballot guys last year, no question Melo is too.

Worse than that.... (-20) +/-

Yeah, it's his first game back... but that's exactly who everybody thought Melo was.

He takes too many bad shots, and plays bad defense.

I'm glad the Blazzers gave Melo another chance in the nba. But damn, they don't need another dude going 4-14 though. Dame and CJ already have that part covered.

And despite that, he has made it past the first round of the playoffs twice.

I think he gets in, but I think his playoff resume keeps him from being first ballot. That and his being allergic to defense.

Portland was 5-9 prior to Melo and Dame didn't play. What did you really expect?
