I had a student in school who had a passion for hunting. A fellow had mentored him in deer hunting and I mentored him on bird hunting. He stayed active with both through high school and we got together last year to hunt birds. He got his welding certification and at 19yr he's now on a prevailing wage job in Ohio making good coin. Came home this week and we caught up on a bird hunt.
He knocked down a nice buck when he was 14. Another when he was 15, another when he was 16, another in is senior year or so....I don't have it written down, it's just that this kid has had amazing luck in the deer woods from the start.
He came home for the archery season last week and on Monday he arrowed the 9 pointer and then on Wednesday, knocked down the huge 10 pointer!
I'm so thrilled for him and ya know what, at this point he's not just lucky, he's good. I asked him, you don't even get nervous anymore do you? He said nope, I used to. Get this, the 10 point stopped 15 yds away and made a scrape! He watched it the whole time and then made it his last task.
The story goes on. He shot it at 4:00 and got a nice through shot that he knew was solid but then while letting it lay down he had to go to dinner at his grandmother's house. I said holy shit did you want to skip desert?! Oh man he said he was so anxious. By the time he got back at about 6:30, he found it soon enough but he also found that he chased some yotes off the hindquarter they had started on.
Anyway, cool once in a lifetime achievement even for him.
