Picked up my CPL recently and plan on carrying as much as possible (I work in a place with the inability to carry while I'm there)

I'm looking for input on what snags you came across when first carrying.

Probably buying a Sig P365XL as my main carry gun. I've been taking my P320C with me on walks with the dog for a while, but it's just a paddle holster in a pretty safe neighborhood.

My main questions are about inside the waistband carry, types of holsters (mainly thinking about a Kydex at 4:00,) and car safes, should I have to store my firearm while at work.

Any info is welcome.

Don't go cheap when buying a holster. You can get a great quality, comfortable, adjustable holster (at a good price) from Crossbreed Holsters-- Best IWB Holster | Concealed Carry Holster | Appendix Holster. I like the Supertuck model.
As far as storing in your car, you can get vehicle gun boxes that bolt to the floorboard. But, if nobody knows you have a gun in there, usually you can just put it under your seat and lock your car up. I don't recommend putting it in the trunk, as someone may see you do it.

I'm a big fan of Vedder holsters.

I'm not familiar with the 365XL but I'm assuming it's a longer barrel version of the 365. If that also comes with more grip area it will be harder to conceal. It can be done. I carried a full-size M&P for years and then a Glock 19 and CZ P07. I now carry a Shield.

Bought the 365 today. Holster shopping now. I've heard of the brand's listed above, but regarding type: Planning on carrying at 4:00, but do I need something with a wider back piece or will a smaller footprint holster, like the appendix carriers, work ok?

I'd really prefer not to have to buy and return different styles just to find something. The gun is small so I'm hoping the slim Kydex will work just fine

Slightly longer slide and the grip is probably the same as a standard 365 with the pinky extension mag. Still smaller than a Shield, so no worries about concealability.

If it's smaller than a shield, are you sure you don't want to consider pocket carry?

Regarding 4:00 carry, you don't need anything with a wider pancake-style backing. An appendix style type holster will work fine in my experience. Especially with a smaller gun.

I would definitely be looking at kydex too. One of the main advantages of the gun you bought is its slim form. I would try to add as little to that as possible.

It's definitely a little big for a pocket. Overall probably a similar footprint to the Shield, but the grip doesn't feel as thin to me, and it holds twice the rounds.

It's actually bigger than a Shield all the way around but not by much and the trade off is you get to carry more lead.

If it's any bigger than the Shield I wouldn't recommend pocket carry.

I carry mostly in a Vedder Pocket Locker but when I do belt carry it I carry it in a Vedder LightTuck.

Just to follow up, I've been really happy with the setup so far. Unless I'm at work, I'm carrying everywhere and have had no issues whatsoever. The P365 is perfect for casual wear. I might pick up the "claw" attachment for the holster though just to pull the end of the grip in a little.

You went with the Light Tuck then? Good choice.

I've never tried the claw attachment. Makes sense though, their thought process behind it.

The P365. Have you put it through its paces? What ammo did you choose?

Yeah, the XL specifically. Only about 200 rounds through so far, but it shoots great. The grip is absolutely perfect. Great texture and fits my hand like a glove.

I'm carrying Federal HST.

HST is what I use currently. Although I'm not real particular. I'll buy whatever I can get a good deal on as long as it's the high end stuff. HST, Gold Dot, Ranger, etc. You tested the HST in the gun, correct? It's been a while since I broke in a new gun for self-defense so I can't really remember how many rounds I used to vet the gun but I would think an absolute minimum would be 100 flawless rounds before I trusted it. 200-500 would be better though.

I only put a box of HST through, since it's getting hard to find at times and I needed to keep 2 guns loaded up at home, but I had 0 failures with anything I put in.

Buy the boxes of (50) for the same price as the Walmart 25's. They say "For Law Enforcement Only" on the box ignore it. It's a suggestion, not a law.
