I am in a Strat-o-matic league and am looking at a trade in an attempt to win it all. Strat-o-matic leagues run one season behind so all players I'm talking about in theory play to their stats last season. Last year was my first year in the league and I ended up losing in the world series. My biggest weakness is not having a stud frontline starting pitcher.

The offer on the table is I can get Sale (I would control this year which is last years stats, next year which is based on this years actual MLB stats, and then have restricted FA rights to match any offers from any other team.) and Ty Buttrey.

I give up Chris Archer (Not using this year anyway so only giving up restricted FA rights), prospect Austin Riley, Alex Colome (RFA), Max Fried, and my 3rd round pick.

The league is 16 teams and each team has a farm team (Mine is Atlanta) that you automatically own all prospects as long as they make the majors for their major league affiliate. Once a prospect reaches MLB you can sign them for a max contract of 3 years. There are clauses to extend after the 2nd year and pick up an option year if offered.

Thoughts? I know it's a lot to absorb and it's not really "fantasy" baseball as most of us are familiar with, but I know many of you play in dynasty leagues so I'd be interested in your thoughts. I'm leaning towards taking the deal. I'll likely long term regret it but I tried to acquire a frontline starter in FA after losing the series last year and wasn't able to. Most teams only allow players to hit RFA and will match whatever offers they get.

How high are you on Riley? I think Archer and Fried are just roster fillers that are not going to give you much anyways. Colome and Buttrey are a pass IMO. Colome has the longer pedigree, but Buttrey has the longer career. I think this trade comes down to Sale vs Riley and a 3rd.

If you think it puts you over the top and wins the WS, I say do it. If you are high on Riley and need a 3b, don't do it.

I currently have Jose Ramirez (set for RFA this year) at third and because he's struggling I may be able to sign him cheaper to a new three year contract and then even if Riley moves back to third whenever the Braves are done with Donaldson I am ok (presuming Jose Ramirez returns to an elite player....)

My outfield is stacked with JD Martinez, Ronald Acuna, Giancarlo Stanton (will take insurance on him next season if he doesn't play 25% of games I can only pay 25% of salary but I can't use him at all), Victor Robles, Lourdes Guriel Jr, and RFA rights to Charlie Blackmon and Adam Eaton.

Thanks, I accepted it. The deal also freed up a bit of cash so I'm going to see if I can improve the pen a bit. Buttrey isn't usable at all this season because he didn't have enough IP last year. My bullpen is OK, but you can never have enough bullpen arms.

Mission accomplished!

Sale was very good in the 1st round, very shaky in the league championship series but we squeaked by 4-3, but utterly filthy dominant in the World Series that my team won 4 games to 1. Sales World Series numbers in two starts: 2-0, 17 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 30 K, 0.529 ERA, 0.412 WHIP
