If Minnesota wins the natty this year, is their blue blood status restored?

I mean, they have more recent natties than Michigan as it stands now.

Though I guess it is pretty ridiculous that an 8-2 Minnesota team was voted national champion over an undefeated Ole Miss.

They only had 1 loss when the final polls came out, and OM had a tie. In general, seasons prior to the early 70s were rife with those situations.

Yes, that's why those claims are bullshit. Michigan has had eight 1 loss or no loss seasons since 1970. Unlike some teams, we just happened to do it in years where we didn't get "voted" the champion.

I'm still suspicious of Minnesota; I can't imagine a scenario where they come out of the Iowa and Wisconsin games without a loss. And then face OSU in the B10 title game. They're a 2-3 loss team when everything is all said and done before the bowl games. The first 8 games of their schedule they played just the easiest schedule possible. Their last four games are/were PSU, Iowa, Northwestern and Wisconsin. Let's not also forget this is a Minnesota team that barely escaped Fresno State in OT, only beat Georgia Southern by 3 points, beat South Dakota State by a TD, Purdue by a TD....so they're scraping by. I wouldn't be shocked if they got taken out by NW as well.

They've started waxing teams since then so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that maybe they just took a little bit to find themselves. They arent winning a natty, just too large of a talent gap but they are going to crush NW and are a good team.

They've only had 3 really good games this year, and let's be honest; they were lucky to escape the PSU game with a win. Those 3 turnovers killed PSU; who had over 500 yards of offense but only ended up with 26 points.

People keep discrediting this team, but they have legitimate NFL talent on both sides of the ball. Tanner Morgan has been a really, really good QB. He's 4th in the nation in QB rating with 21 TD/4 INT and a higher YPA than Joe Burrow. Penn State has allowed 7 passing TDs all year, and 3 of them came against Minnesota. Rodney Smith is 18th in the nation in rushing, 3rd in the B1G. Tyler Johnson and Rashod Bateman have nearly 1600 yards and 15 TDs combined.

Also, it would be a monumental upset if NW beat them. NW is pitiful. Say what you want about Minnesota, but they are very clearly a superior team to NW. If Minnesota wins this weekend, I think they jump Utah and possibly Oregon, and they should.

Did PSU walk up to a Minnesota player and hand them the ball? Or did Minnesota not force those turnovers? Even with the PSU game, Minnesota is a top 15 total defense. They're a good team.

Agree with all of that. But I think there is still a tier talent difference with OSU, LSU, Clemson........ not quite there yet.

Oh I agree 100%. However, to discredit them just because they're Minnesota is ignorant.

They haven't played anyone but PSU. They're a "good" team but I don't think they're a great team. I don't think they're anywhere near a top 15 team. Maybe 20-25 team. Like I said, I expect them to lose to Iowa tomorrow. People are talking about Minnesota like they're in the top 10 realm, and IMO they're just a product of their schedule. There's usually one B10 team every year that gets lucky with the schedule like this. Their hardest teams they've played so far are what - Illinois and Penn State?

not discrediting them at all.

I hope they win the rest of their regular season games, lose to OSU, then go on to a high end bowl and destroy say, Baylor or Florida......

You mean the Illinois team that beat Wisconsin and was within 3 points of michigan late in the game? Yeah, Minnesota beat them 40-17. Saying they aren't "anywhere near a top 15 team" is just ignorant.

I don't think Michigan is a top 15 team, but I'm pretty confident we'd be undefeated with their schedule to this point.
