So if the Pats drop him some team would want to look at the MRI and do there own evaluation right? Isn't there some issues with dropping injured players? I guess until he is picked up the Pats owe his cap hit?

Now that he’s on IR they’re on the hook for the remaining $1m or so left on his deal. They can (and from the sound of it will) negotiate an injury settlement with him and release him off IR at which point they’ll regain whatever the difference between the settlement and the remaining salary on the cap is, and be free of any further obligation whether anyone else signs him or not.

So he must agree with the deal take the buyout which frees up the cap space.

Josh only counts $2M against the cap. He's also an FA after this year.

There's also the unasked and lingering doubt......did Josh take a toke somewhere??

This whole thing is very strange and while the things at Foxboro have never been exactly 'normal', this set of circumstances is beginning to appear outside the box.

As far as Hooper goes, the Falcons pretty much know that he's gone after this year. Patriots know that they may not be able to resign him either but giving up two players and possibly a 6th or 7th round pick might be enough unless someone else comes along and is willing to drop a load in the falcons' lap. My guess is that they'd much rather Hooper play in the AFC than the NFC and making a quickie deal with the Pats might keep the wolves at bay.

That is my understanding of how it’s supposed to work, yes. And if he’s healthy enough to play it’s probably in his best interest to do so. But I’m kinda wondering if there isn’t some rule I don’t know about the way the reporters are saying he’ll be waived “when he’s heathy.” I’m gonna have to go back and look through the CBA again later.

The Josh Gordon thing is not making a whole lot of sense. Supposedly, he's not that hurt and could return very soon yet the Pats put him on IR. Rumor is he's going to be released. WTH?

Josh has bone bruises in his knee. While not serious generally, it takes longer to heal then a sprain. It basically is an "almost broken bone" Some of the bone fibers are broken but not all the way through like a fracture.

They can take a long time to heal before training can resume.

The meat of our season is coming up. Gordon would not be able to play during that difficult stretch.
With Gordon on IR, Sanu can play right now!

Maybe just me but I don't think Gordon is necessarily lost for good. We'll see.....

I also predict we do not give up any of our receivers.....

Rumors of tardiness, Gordon's overall commitment to details and putting in the preparatory work are the reasons for his imminent departure.

Shame if true, what a waste.

So it’s actually covered in the league constitution and bylaws. Apparently when a player goes on IR they’re given either a major or minor designation depending on whether the team medical staff adjudges the injury will require more or less than 6 weeks to recover from sufficiently to play. But if the minor designation is used, the player automatically goes on waivers as soon as the medical staff deems him healthy enough to play. Interesting. Always something new to learn.

Now that OJ Howard is available from the Buccaneers, I’ve read they are looking for RB’s. Would you trade Sony Michel for him? Contracts are close to similar.

I would.

With Damien Harris available, I can see trading Sony. The physical status of Burkhead has me concerned, however.

Honestly I was hoping nobody would ask that question.

Trade Sony? I would consider it. For Howard, not so sure.....

According to NBC Sports Boston, the TB Bucs have offer TE OJ Howard to the Pats for a 1st round pick. It's also being reported that BB pretty much told them to pound sand up their ass because no one will give them a 1st round pick for a player who isn't playing for no reason other than the coach likes two other TEs better. They're trying to recover the first-rounder they used to draft him.

My guess is this.............if the Pats swing any kind of deal for Howard, the Bucs will have to take a player from the 53 man roster and possibly get a third or fourth round pick. One other thing that BB could do is force the Bucs to give him an OT, and trade Ferentz and Newsome and give the Bucs a first round pick. But he'll have to jiggle more players to create cap space for two guys making more than $2M each.

Right now, this doesn't seem doable.

Well fuck how many TEs are we supposed to sign this year?
