There I was in my backyard raking some leaves and doing other yard work, preparing for the eventual darkness of Winter. Enjoying the cool breeze and autumn leaves, I consumed the fall foliage of my own backyard. Between dumping the leaves into the yard debris I took moments to reminisce of the Oregon Ducks 2019 football season. Thinking of how the Ducks got to 4-0 in conference and 6-1 overall.

I smiled to myself as I thought of the Ducks current 6 game win streak, and how the rest of the season could play out in favor of Oregon. But my smile decreased to a cautious smirk as I thought about the Ducks upcoming game against the Washington State Cougars. A team who has gotten the best of the Ducks the last four seasons. There I was, standing in the beauty of the Fall scenery, and admittedly I didn't want to ruin this moment, the best time of the year, by having the past versus the cougars consume me, so I quickly started thinking about the positives and how this upcoming Saturday will be different for Oregon. The fact that Wazzu has a new quarterback, Their DC left and the one filling in just recently quit, how Oregon took one of their defensive coaches themselves this past offseason.

Then I started thinking about the strength of Oregon's offensive line, against that putrid cougar defense, and Oregon's defense line vs a line of less than intimidating players on the cougar offensive line. Then I thought about all the interceptions the cougar QB has thrown and I started having visions of Oregon's defense getting take away after take away. My smile was coming back, I was started to fully take in the autumn afternoon. But something was wrong. My smile never fully grew from just a smirk, I had a feeling of missing something within my stomach, a sense of discomfort still sat with me. Just then a darker cloud rolled through and what had been a cool sunshine afternoon with the sun rays making the autumn leaves glow, momentarily ceased to exist.

Trying to escape this moment of discomfort, I tried to get my mind off of this current unsettling moment, and I began raking leaves again. Suddenly, after a pile of leaves, the sound of a *tink* brought me back into the moment. Something had hit my rake. Curious, I dug through the leaves, swiping them away from the teeth of the rake to see what had made such a sound.

Then there it was. It was an old rusted nail. My eyes widened and as I picked up the old rusted nail, that had been hidden in my yard. That dark cloud that had momentarily hovered over the autumn bliss vanished. The leaves were glowing again, as if they were taking in the ray of sunshine. The ray of light that was shining down even made the old rusted nail seem less dull.

And as I stood there in that moment, I realized, this Oregon fan got it.

Still trying to buy history you don't have?

I have a bet in the Betting Exchange for you. $500 says the ducks won't win out.

What did I just read?
A complex prose written on a pristine Pacific Northwest day with deep rooted meaning, nostalgia, unadulterated joy, complex doubt, and ultimately triumph, overcoming thoughts that he couldn’t help thinking.

This book will have you coming back for more as you explore one man’s journey of wrestling with “Cuogs” of yesteryear.

Constant readers, I endorse this book.

OP, that wasn't a ray of golden sunlight you were splashed with, it was something that belongs on lemonparty.org.

Best enjoyed with your coziest sweater, nestled close to the crackling pops of maple wood burning in your fireplace, all the while enjoying your favorite piping hot Chai tea.

I don’t know, being around a campfire after a hard days hike sipping on a well earned whiskey is pretty satisfying.

@7Samurai13 whats your whiskey of choice?

There is a local distillery, McMenamins that make a Scotch style aged whiskey called Hogshead. I usually have a bottle in the pantry that’ll last a couple months. Nice to have a couple fingers after a long day.

I did Four Roses. It’s pretty smooth. One guy brought Glenlivet. My brother brought some Maker’s Mark. It was another guy’s 40th birthday and he brought some Kilchoman which is smoky as fuck.
