The 2-4 Steelers are back to work this week getting ready to see if they can put two wins together back to back.

The opponent is the 0-6 Miami Dolphins...yes, the same team they acquired Minkah Fitzpatrick from a few of weeks ago. Clearly the Dolphins are playing for the 2020 draft to launch the rebuild. They have given up a staggering amount of points thru 6 games, but they have shown some competitiveness the last two games. In fact they were the more than just competitive in BUF...that was a one possession game in the 4th QTR after MIA scored to make it 21-24 (on a scramble by the old man Fitz at that) and BUF took back the onside kick attempt for 6 for the final margin.

I'm sure they would like to boost the value of that 1st round pick they are getting from PIT for Minkah with a win over the Steelers.

Injuries...per Pro Football Reference website
  • James Washington...probable
  • Roosevelt Nix...probable
  • Mason Rudolph...probable
  • Joe Haden...questionable
  • Steve Nelson...questionable
  • Devin Bush...questionable
  • TJ Watt...questionable
  • James Conner...questionable
  • Mark Barron...questionable
  • Jaylen Samuels...out
  • Sean Davis...IR eligible to return week 11
Rudolph is back on the saddle this week and Nix will be making his 1st appearance in a game since week 1. The word I'm hearing is most of the questionable players should be ready to go this week...practice status will most likely be the gauge for these guys.

Outlook

Statistically these teams are a lot closer than you might think on OFC. What starts to tilt this game in favor of the Steelers is the DEF performance. Vegas has PIT -14.5...that's an awful lot of points to give up to a Rudolph led team, but I do feel pretty good about the win. In spite of Tomlin's penchant for losing these type games...I think they will beat the Dolphins...I'm thinking 24-17.

What say you?

I smell a typical Tomlin-esque performance coming up...

i dont think miami looks at this game as "if we win, we get more value for the minkah pick" . Because the golden goose, is their own pick, and winning drops their chances of getting that #1 pick.

If they weren't still in a dire situation themselves I would almost bank on it at least being a close game and it still might be...as it stands, they know they can't afford to lose this game.

I expect them to get heat on Fitz (their Fitz) and get a pick maybe with our Fitz...:D.

Good point...there is serious competition for #1 overall now. CIN is also ofer, and ATL, WAS, NYJ only have 1 win.

That was exactly my thiughts

There is also the thought that from a draft perspective MIA can't really lose...win, they enhance the Steelers pick. Lose and they enhance their own pick.

Yeah, I agree with that, but it shouldn't be #1 overall or bust.

If they end up say 3rd overall with their pick and PIT is 15, plus HOU is 20...add in 2 2nd round picks, they have so much firepower that they can entice the #1 overall to move if they REALLY want a player.

Funny it could come down to week 16 to determine #1 overall...CIN @ MIA.

Unless something changes in a hurry, the Bengals are probably going to lose @ LAR, bye, then BAL, @ OAK, and PIT 2.0.

If they don't slip up and beat the Jets, the Bengals could be 0-14 going into week 16.

It shouldn’t . But everything Miami has done is number one overall or bust. But there is gonna be 3 teams vying for 0-16

LOL...that could be the reason the onside kick was returned untouched for 6!

ATL, NYJ, WAS have won a game...MIA is competing with CIN...and I think they play each other later.

You know, looking at this schedule there is only one game the Steelers can't win IMHO (Indianapolis because they have a really good coach and we have a walking word-of-the-day-calendar). How many will they actually win? I have no idea. I do like them this week just because their situation is poor enough that it should be the ice water in the face they need to overcome their usual schtick playing bad teams.

I actually forgot Washington won. But yeah cincy and Miami have to be the favs. If Washington turns it over to Haskins, then they may never win again.

I feel the same way...the situation is too dire to lose to MIA...if they were 4-2...I would almost pick MIA to win.

Big picture...I'm afraid to even look past this week, but I did peek.

IND...So far the most impressive game was the win @ KC. They couldn't do much with the ball in terms of scoring TDs, but they pounded KC on the ground....I think PIT has the DEF to make Brissett rush some throws, maybe a sack or two...I'm a little unsure how the OFC will do vs the IND DEF...you may be right about that one.

CLE...I smell a split coming here.

CIN...I smell a sweep coming here

BAL...I smell a sweep coming here

Rams...50/50 game...if they get heat on Goff they can win that one.

BUF/NYJ/AZ...they are better than all 3 of these teams, but BUF and @ NYJ concern me.

Know nothing about Haskins, but I assume he will eventually take over...drafted him too high to sit with a 1 win team.

Injury Update

For those that don't sit at a desk with a computer in front of them most of the day during work.

Most all of the questionable guys were full practice participants today.

Watt, Haden, Juju, Hilton, Nelson, Nix, Rudolph, Washington...even Samuels.

The lone limited was Barron...probably not a big deal in this one.

Time will tell, but I'm still doubtful Samuels will play this week, but it does set up well for him to be ready next week.

Miller time approaching fast!

Chow!

The Steelers had better win this game. It really shouldn't even be close. Especially with it being at home. Just hoping for a nice win tonight.
