Lane Johnson says Eagles players have been late to meetings, practices in wake of embarrassing loss

The Philadelphia Eagles have been blown out in consecutive weeks to fall to 3-4 and one game out of first place in the NFC East. Head coach Doug Pederson tried to inspire the team by saying the Eagles were going to beat the Cowboys, but that plan hilariously backfired as the Eagles fell 37-10 to their NFC East rivals Sunday night.

There was plenty of frustration going on around the Eagles locker room. Lane Johnson has been honest throughout his career, not sugarcoating anything regarding his play and the state of his football team. Johnson's comments about the Eagles were damning when discussing the state of the team in a postgame show with NBC Sports Philadelphia's John Clark and Eagles color analyst Mike Quick.

"Really, it's gonna probably be a callout session," Johnson said. "Everybody will be held accountable. You know, little stuff that slides during the week — late to practice, late to meetings, late to this and that. Stuff will be held accountable for. I think that will maybe creep into the games."

I saw this earlier and heard that Donovan McBitch called out Lane for putting it out in the media. To be honest it needed to be done because behind closed doors nothing was happening. Of course i am wondering Donovan McFag did not comment about the anonymous player making waves.

Arcega-Whiteside doesn't suck IMO, but he is not a viable outside receiver on the team right now because they already lack speed to stretch defenses. You can't put him and Jeffery out there at the same time, you need someone to stretch defenses. They relied on Djack to provide that this season, and it backfired when he got hurt right away, just like it backfired counting on an old Mike Wallace the year before. Wallace was never re-signed by any other teams. He never played again. We were starting him!

Our receivers right now are:

Slow and Injured Jeffery
Can't catch a Cold Agholor
Completely forgettable Hollins
Too Slow Arcega-Whiteside
Team that has our number Goedert
Even the waterboy knows the ball is coming to me Ertz

I still contend that wentz said something dumb between the Washington and Atlanta games and lost the wideouts and some of the locker room. Djax mysterious injury, Alshon media leaks and nelly giving up on balls is just too much to be coincidence. Add Doug weird media conference and Lane saying some people are showing up late to meeting etc and you have a strike going on over something other than x's and o's.

where was that article or debate from earlier in the year that super pro wentz fans were saying was bullshit? about drama on the team because they wanted foles or something like that? i have to backtrack to find that. i'm intrigued what it actually was.

I would put Mike Groh and Pederson very high on the blame list. This Offense CLEARLY went downhill when we lost both Frank Reich and John DeFilippo ... Groh is putrid and should be fired immediately. He and Pederson are not drawing up plays like when Reich and John were running the show in 2017 and Wentz threw for 33 TD's despite missing games at the end of the season. The loss of DeSean Jackson has obviously been huge ... if he had stayed healthy, I believe he would have made a HUGE difference in this Offense. He and Wentz clicked early in the off season and he was the perfect compliment in this Offense. Wentz favors speed in the Offense as he's clearly a downfield QB. Foles is a better QB imo with a plodding style Offense like we have at the moment ... but Foles is gone and we need to concentrate on arming Wentz with faster WR's moving forward. On the Defensive side we lost our pass rush depth on the interior which could have helped a bunch; no Jernigan or Malik Jackson who would have pressured the QB's up the gut all year next to Cox. Without the interior pressure and Cox still not looking 100% this year ... it has taken a toll on the 2ndary which is not good to begin with.

Well said Rey. Reich is an offensive "genius", find creative plays that work in different situations, i.e. when he let the Bills to the greatest comeback in NFL playoff history. Groh isn't any help to Doug when nothing seems to work. I don't know if Defillipo helped to design plays with Reich, but he is a QB whisperer that helps the QBs to focus. It is a shame that the brain trust couldn't judge his talent over Groh after Reich left. That is one of the biggest reasons of the decline last year and this, besides poor drafting and free agency.

Rewatching some of these past games ... I'm not understanding what Schwartz is trying to do with our 2ndary. We're not playing "either" full zone nor press ... it's this weird in-between garbage. We're giving receivers too much cushion, yet not giving enough help behind them like is usual in a typical Tampa 2 style. Receivers are allowed a free release to either run an uncontested slant or build up speed where are Corners are forced to guess and they are being left in limbo. I think we could benefit greatly from jamming receivers at the LOS. Especially Rasul Douglas who simply can't keep up with speed.

IIRC it is the OC that makes the game plan for the week with input from other coaches including Pederson. From what I can tell there are running a rinse and repeat offense every single week. I have not seen a single change in the game plan with the exception of the Packers game were there was a bigger focus on the run.

Three consecutive weeks teams have beat up the Cowboys. They are soft up the middle against the run. They may be fast but that makes them easy to run on. We have a very good power back in Jordan Howard and he performed fantastic against the Cowboys and then all of a sudden he was out of the lineup. Jordan Howard had a total of 11 carries in the game. He had 7 carries for 40 yards at 5.7 ypc in the 1st quarter. He did not touch the ball in the 2nd quarter. Why he did not become the focal point I will never understand. The plan should have been to pound the ball and keep the ball out of the Cowboys hands because the defense is like swiss cheese.

Mick Groh should already have been fired by now.

I have been saying this since last year. He has not made any adjustments to compensate for the deficiencies in the secondary. It is the reason I believe that he should be fired. Teams have figured out his defense and he has not been able to adjust his defense to overcome it.

Watching the game the plan on shutting down the defensive line was easy. On run plays they doubled Fletcher Cox. On Pass plays they doubled Brandon Graham. Teams do not really need to double Cox all that much any more because they can use the center to help chip on him. The reason for this is the lack of talent along the rest of the defensive line. Yes, injuries played a part in that but good defensive coordinators figure out game plans to compensate for teams figuring you out. The Patriots have been doing it for years with minimal talent on defense.

Yep...that is one of the few remaining legal ways a defensive secondary can compensate for talent lack....get up on the LOS and jam them up before the five yards. We might have 1-2 times a game where these dips dont let go at five yards...but that at least compensates for the 3-5 defensive holdings they do because they are sitting back trying to guess which way a full speed receiver is going to go.

* I am pretty sure DJax isn't staying off the field this long because his feelings got an ouchie
* Alshon is not confirmed as the leaker by anyone but Eskin
* Nelly has proven before he doesn't need an intrinsic reason for his talent to drop quick. He just needs to be asked to do more than he thinks he can do.
* I can't say I think the PCs have been any more weird than you could find with any team at any point in the year.

Lane has called out slackers....it very well could be the WRs. Or it could be 1/3 of the team in varying positions.

I find less concern with the time it was posted, way more with the message. I don’t know....hopefully they are clearing some shit up. But none of this is good mojo at all.

I think it was Jeffrey, and he will be gone after this year, unless they can get a good trade offer. Next year, we should have a new set of receivers. I wouldn't be surprised if Ertz is traded for a 1st round pick, and we draft a stud WR in the first round ourselves. So next year our core group will be Goedert; DJAZ; JJAW; a new stud, and maybe Ward.. I think Aggy will be traded yet this week or next in a deal. Holllins will be cut. A possibiolity for a trade by next week is Robby Anderson, Jets. He's a former Temple Owl. Good length, deep speed, good hands.

With all due respect, there's no way Ertz gets dealt for a #1. If the Eagles can find anyone crazy enough to make that offer, they should do it in a heartbeat.

the whole team needs to be reshaped. fans of course won't go for that, so they're going to be stuck in 8-8 hell for quite some time.

But I thought these picks were next to useless? At least in Howies hands. We can get a WR that is sure fire to be the player Ertz is? I get that Goedert is there, but it’s still a negative sum game.

A better idea is to get the WR room sorted out. Jeffrey....I just don’t care if it was him. They can handle that in house.

But I am seeing what was my biggest concern with him....injury prone. Not only was he injury prone in Chicago but he was possibly taking a seat too easily at the smallest tweak. Now, he proved me wrong on his toughness in 2017. But, much like Agholor, that’s starting to look like an aberration. Whenever he is not 100% the last two years it seriously fucks with his game.

Or maybe it’s simply this. It’s his wheels. 2017 it was his shoulder and he performed well. His talent is predicated on his legs and his height. Anything missing there is he is drastically not he same player. Can’t use him well at all.
