Also trade value or not we have 2 guys in the books this year for big money.
All of this during a rebuild. We shall see how much is invested this off season

If we are looking at things historically, Rangers have a proven record with hitters that their parks have helped. But they have had a poor run overall on pitching and retainment Maybe the new park leans to pitching which seems wide to me. Could not keep Brown or Lee. Lost out in all FA elite signings. So perhaps this is a reset
Lee and his wife had a personal preference for Philly or we would have gotten him. Glad we didn't because we got Beltre instead, and did just fine without the prototypical ace. I would lime to repeat that scenario.

Brown was too angry to stay here. He was always angry.

Many top end pitchers didn't come here because we didn't meet their price. Some probably wanted to avoid the oven.

Probably hard to say with 100% certainty why a guy like Lee did not sign. Not sure I ever bought his Arkansas wife excuse. Could not sign Greinke. Some non signings probably were a blessing.

Just my simple speculation that the heat and hitter friendly parks were a hindrance to signings. Just like signing hitters with career years at friendly Fenway might regress elsewhere. Benny guy use the same argument with NL pitching.

I am definitely no expert as you well know

All things equal, I really doubt we sign Cole. I bet he goes out West to close out career. Why would he want to play here. We are t going to money whip him
We are not going to give even the little needed for JBJ although he is a good fit and bridge to our young guys. I know BoSox would like to avoid the taxes and bet JPM does not opt out. We want to keep prospects until we are really legit

Think we get one or two SP with one at least with a multi year contract

I agree with you 100%. Why on earth would he want to pitch here? And how much more money would he want to pitch here as oppossed to other spots?

We'd so have to over-spend to get him here it would be an A-Roid situation all over again.

A-Roid type contracts got us where we are today......deep poop. Don't need anymore.

Unless we plan on adding something should we really think about extensions. I bet we do but I hope we add at least 2 good players. We likely don't renew Pence so there is a loss. Santana and Pence worked out well. Solak and Willie were good with fairly small samples Elvis regressed and Gallo got hurt again. Got lucky with Trevino but Mathis was a disappointment to me. I thought he would be the guy to help guide our young pitchers. Our young pitchers were ok but did not appear to be lightening in a bottle minus Clase

Playoff related

I’m glad that Alvarez guy is struggling with the astros. He really tore us up in the second half of the season. Maybe the rays or Yankees found a weakness.

He should have went after Springer but after down in the count with Altuve. Just don't give in. The catcher went out and spooked Chapman. Was bad mojo

A pitcher should always give him their best stuff vs second guessing what they have.

Sure would like to have Hurdle as our hitting coach again but I would imagine he would not stay long and want to manage again.
