10/19 - vs VGK

MAF has an all-star night at PPG arena. Go figure. Stopped all 29 shots. Stoned the Pens. That mask move was bush league & should have been called. I will say that Fleury got lucky on numerous shots, especially Letang's shot. Sniped past Fleury but hit the post. 2 post hits by my count. Lucky bastid!

Jarry had a strong showing. 21 saves on 23 shots. 2nd goal against was when he tried to vacate the net to give the Pens an extra attacker late in reg. Which was a bad move. Pulling Jarry on a power play with 2:30 left???

Pens were once again short-handed due to a laundry list of injuries. Heard that Jack Johnson was expected to be scratched and wasn't even at the arena during the warmups. Didn't even get the call until 6:30pm, a half hour before the puck dropped. lol. Sully apparently can't make up his damn mind. And yes, Jack Johnson still looked lost out there. Pathetic.

Overall this was a very displeasing game. They dominated the first 30 minutes and the beginning of the 3rd. But ultimately they got owned by MAF, and piss-poor officiating. Team is ravaged by injuries so the 5-game win streak was sort of an anomaly.

Crosby is still flawless.

So Saturday both McCann & Dumoulin were scratched due to injury... further adding to the laundry list of injuries

The roster has become very unbalanced, which as history has shown seems to invite worst-case scenarios. Pens are currently missing 5 forwards and there's no short-term hope for relief to those players. Currently they have some players playing ABOVE their station, such as Lafferty (who is young & promising but inexperienced) with the 2s or Blueger with the 3s. Playing with 11 forwards is not a long-term recipe for success.

FA's like Pominville could provide some short term relief on a friendly 2-way contract. Rutherford could look to the FA pool or make another emergency recall from WBS (Agozzino, Noessen or Poulin). Not sure they are ready but they could be better off in the long run giving their top prospect a little taste of the NHL.

Thoughts @thedddd ?

If Kahun ever starts to produce like they traded for him to do this might help the situation some. But right now their offense is Crosby/Guentzel and a bunch of bottom 6 forwards. Tanev works in the top 6 only if Malkin/Galchenyuk are around.
From the minors Poulin I don't think can come back now he is in Juniors, Agozzino and Noessen are nothing more than minor league filler but truthfully if one has a hot hand bring them up (IE...Noessen).

Would be interesting to see if Pominville would be willing to take a 2 -way contract because I doubt he would want to play in the AHL vs not playing at all. Also his speed might be a factor (ie...why they didn't make an offer for Boyle).

Outside of that there really isn't any relief in sight unless they find a taker for one of their d-men. And even then, the ones on the block don't have trade value.

Feels like nothing but time could remedy this situation. Not all is lost given they somehow managed to string together wins. I'm just worried about whether McCann has to miss some extended time.

I thought Poulin was still in the WBS? Last I heard he was the hot hand. But its been a minute since I've looked into them.

^One name I wonder if they could work out a deal with the Senators is Namestnikov. He is hot right now but still a high cap hit and could garner a swap of a bad contract and bring in some talent. With that the Penguins will have to entice the deal with additional picks or a prospect.

Yeah I thought the same but went to Hockeydb and it is showing him in Sherbrooke. Sadly playing very well, that production would have been great right now.

As for the team I think you are right, just wait it out. Malkin is skating and I haven't heard anything else on McCann but that would stink if he is long-term.

What's the Pens cap looking like? Thought they were severely limited there.

Poulin has no business being in Sherbrooke. He's dominating.

Stand corrected even though Poulin is in juniors he can be recalled without burning his entry level contract, if and only if it is for a short-term.

Josh Ho-Sang is a rumored trade bait for the Penguins but the issue there is will the change prove his worth? He is yet to prove himself in the NHL. Probably would take less to get him here vs other trades so it might be a good fit. The question will the Isles deal within the division?

Well he's at the very least and intriguing prospect with a debatably undefined ceiling. Putting him in the right line could unlock his abilities. But he does carry some maturity baggage with him.

Don't know about "take less to get him" since he's being held prisoner by a division rival. He's clearly upset with the management and wants out, but they don't appear to want to give up the goods.

Oh player/pick wise no it would be of higher value was thinking more along the lines less likely to have to take on salary.

Just saw that Rust is potentially coming on the road trip, Malkin & Galchenyuk skating together, and Bjugstad skating as well...
