so wait until we're 1 starter or 1 positional player away. we are at least 2-4 pitchers and 2 to 4 positional players away from that level right now. how long do you think it will take to get to the level of 1 or the other? I see that as 2-4 years away unless we start now this off-season. I don't argue with your concept just how long it would take to reach it
At this point I would not trade 3 or 4 of our best prospects for 1 player. Something like that should be done when we are where we were in July of 2010. Ideally you build your team right and that kind of trade isn't necessary, but many times it is necessary.

I'm more in favor of FA action right now but there are suggested trade scenarios involving the Rangers about CF'ers. I would not consider trading 3 or 4 of our top prospects for anyone but when we have multiple prospects at certain positions I would consider packaging some of them.

One of the reasons it may be difficult to keep both Mazara and Guzman is that we are so left handed.

Often wondered if Mazara can play 1B. He would appear to have higher ceiling but still at this point no reason to be married to them. Pence is a good DH type but we have to move some guys
You usually want a LH 1st baseman.

Just sites connecting the Rangers as possible landing site for Starling Marte or Jackie Bradley Jr. Nothing firm just chatter based on team needs

jbj wouldn’t cost you much.

Yeah, kind of like saying we tried to contend by signing Volquez, Miller, Smyly, Cabrera and Lynn. To me that is going through the motions and filling out a roster. Those guys that Hcks signed did not fulfill his promise.

I’m not a rangers apologist, but they spent more on just park than that list combined.

They just made some major mistakes. Wasn’t like the rangers Weren’t spending money.

Not saying they didn't spend money, but Hicks made it seem like we were going to spend even more, and he failed to do that.

In 2004 we fell to 18th in payroll.

Rangers right or wrong had higher aspirations for Park. A signing that did not work. A lot of water under that bridge. Hard to find any current relevance minus all the ARod future payments. It will be good to get Prince and Choo off the books

Choo has one more year and not much trade value.

Kicking around the young kids to maybe do a change of scenery deal with another team (maybe an arm) could be interesting and then you clear the decks salary wise to make a big pitching move.

Or you sign Cole now and save Money for the bat next year.

If we are looking at things historically, Rangers have a proven record with hitters that their parks have helped. But they have had a poor run overall on pitching and retainment Maybe the new park leans to pitching which seems wide to me. Could not keep Brown or Lee. Lost out in all FA elite signings. So perhaps this is a reset

All things equal, I really doubt we sign Cole. I bet he goes out West to close out career. Why would he want to play here. We are t going to money whip him
We are not going to give even the little needed for JBJ although he is a good fit and bridge to our young guys. I know BoSox would like to avoid the taxes and bet JPM does not opt out. We want to keep prospects until we are really legit

Think we get one or two SP with one at least with a multi year contract
