The funniest thing about this is all these people in the media calling Lebron a hypocrite, but they won’t speak on certain things due to the interest of their business and job.

That's just it though, if Lebron keeps his mouth shut, it's still hypocritical, but no one is talking about it because it's not "front and center".

The way he chose to speak about it, put the hypocrisy of both himself and the NBA front and center.

Apparently, in a later tweet he said something along the lines of "injustice anywhere undermines justice everywhere." That should have been his first and only comment.

I don’t care how bad Lebron messed up this situation, this don’t take away from anything he said about this country, even though people are trying hard to.

I disagree. He looks hypocritical and like his money is more important than his beliefs.

Look at what Colin Kaepernick was willing to give up for his beliefs and compare that to what Lebron has given up for his.

This China situation is legit the only complaint I've ever had about Lebron. It's disgraceful. If Curry did the same thing, I'd call him out too. If you're going to speak out, at least do so with some fucking dignity. If you choose not to speak out, that silence is glaring, but at the very least you're not undermining the situation for profit. It's pathetic.
you want to bet that his management reached out to some authority in the chinese government to get suggested language?

Listen, you know I'm no Trumper.

But, you can't say disrespectful shit about your own President, speak out on the things that you don't like in this Country, put out TV shows like " shut up and dribble " and then eat a WHOLE DICK when the subject of China comes up.

No.

It's hypocrisy of the highest order. You aren't fucking woke, brave when you only speak out if it doesn't cost you anything.

I'm going to fucking puke the next time LeBron's name is mentioned in the same breath as Ali.

For sure, there's absolutely a managerial component to this. Not sure if it's the Chinese government directly, but Nike has their plugs everywhere so it could be something handed down. It's horrible.

It’s funny how some, not all, are using this to discredit everything Lebron have been speaking on.

He might’ve been ignorant on this situation, but it don’t take away from anything he said in the past.
It does.

He put his bottom line before his ethics.

He's a hypocrite.

And let’s not forget Lebron and others supported Kapernick, ir doesn’t get any more pussy hypocritical than this.

No, his point about waiting a week to put the tweet out, was about the players being in China and their safety. It’s a reason why reports came out last week that the players felt very uncomfortable being in China while all this was going on. That’s why a lot of people believed that the NBA should’ve got them players out of there.

Nothing was ever going to happen to the players. You think this Morey tweet was an "international incident"? Well imagine the "international shitshow" if any harm came to NBA players and officials over there. China isn't stupid. Protections were always in place. Lebron is just being a kowtowing coward. He seriously would have been better off not saying anything

These are the facts.

Doesn't affect his standing on the basketball court.

Dude is still a force of nature.

In the court of public opinion, as it pertains to his being a " man of the people"?

Diminishing returns.

His loyalties are split between his legacy, his pocketbook and doing the right thing.

In this particular situation, doing all 3 is IMPOSSIBLE and he chose wrong.

Well tell that to the Nets and Lakers players who were concerned. You have to remember, most of these players are young and don't know shit about foreign politics.

FUCK LEBRON, that is all
What a spineless cowardly corporate shell. This is a big black eye for the supposedly "woke" NBA.

I have been his biggest fan. I spent the last 6 years on these boards defending him from everything.
This is indefensible.

And, he is making it worse with his pathetic attempts to clarify either 1) Stupidity or 2) Being a Phony
Likely he has outed himself as both being stupid and a phony.

I have also been a strong critic of President Trump,
He lost a ton of credibility to complain about social issues here in the USA including Trump.

The next time he says something about Trump, he is going to look like a buffoon.
This dude spent 10 years trying to rehab his image after the "decision".

And he flushed it all away like an idiot.

Muhammad Ali's ex-wife -- who was married to him during his Vietnam War protest -- says she wishes LeBron James would have stood up for the people of Hong Kong, because that's what Muhammad would have done.

Listen to the audio, Khalilah essentially says powerful people like LeBron and Muhammad should stand up for people fighting for their human rights.

Khalilah also says Muhammad was more savvy when it came to his political comments because he was a "man of the world" who was always fighting for the global good.

"They would not take Muhammad Ali's shorts and burn them anywhere, it would never happen."

Khalilah's referring to the backlash LeBron has gotten in Hong Kong -- where protesters are burning LBJ's jersey in the streets.

Critics of LeBron have been trashing him on social media -- saying he's no Muhammad Ali. Khalilah agrees ... but says he "could be" if he changes the way he handles global political issues.

She adds, "I love LeBron James. I think he's the greatest. But, when it comes to people and society and companies, we have to put that aside. Respect it, but you have to stay the course when it comes to human respect and human fight, human liberty."

Lebron needs to hire someone to tell him when it's time to shut the fuck up.
Agreed, but his bigger point is a good one. Before Morey's tweet, no one was sticking microphones in the faces of these players, most of whom came from poverty and can't be expected to have nuanced geopolitical instincts, and asking them for their opinion on crucial geopolitical issues. Now they are on the hot seat, and that's not their fault.

LeBron is saying basically they are ballplayers and entertainers, not diplomats. Should we stop sending movies to China? Stop all trade with them? Declare war?

Do any of you work for a company that does business with China? Why aren't you quitting your job to speak out?

You keep endeavoring to add this distinction between athletes and their knowledge of foreign and domestic politics... like that's a distinction that makes any kind of difference whatsoever to the central issue here.

The central issue is they "don't know sh!t" period.

These are superlative athletes who are often pampered and coddled because of their athletic gifts through large chunks of (if not their entire) lives.

By and large, they live in artificial bubbles that have little to nothing to do with what's real.

LeBron adds an obnoxious self-importance on to this common equation... he really looks bad here.

He blew it for sure, but these guys never should have been involved in the first place

What have you done for Hong Kong lately?

That's (one of) the points here. The LeBron's of the world do often take the opportunity to get up on a soap box.

I personally would argue that that's the starting point... that's the "first place". You wanna speak out: do it. Absolutely. But you can't be selective about it.

In for that penny... you're in for a pound. Or else you're a hypocrite.
msg said:

Nothing. I'm worried about paying my bills and maybe some day sending my kids to college... in all honesty, I don't have the time or energy to take on the world. I have enough trouble just keeping my own house in some semblance of order.

I've said that he was correct in that Morey should have waited a week. Having said that, just because someone sticks a microphone in his face and asks a question, doesn't mean he has to answer. He called Morey "misinformed" and "uneducated" on the subject and then proceeded to show how misinformed and uneducated he is.

Also, being raised in poverty doesn't keep them from being able to understand that the Chinese government oppresses people or that their are people in China fighting to have the same freedom that we enjoy in this country.
