Dirt cheap: Jeep Gladiator lease offer is $143/month

Leases are complicated to understand — there's money factor, capitalized cost, fees, taxes, and residual values to consider. So while the real-world month-to-month cost for you isn't always easy to understand, the basics of a new 2020 Jeep Gladiator Sport lease is easy: It'll be relatively cheap. Like, $143 per month (estimated) before fees, with 10 percent down, for 24 months.

Note that we said before fees. The actual out-of-pocket cost will vary. But whatever it is, the important thing is that it's the super-high residual value that's making it generally inexpensive. This specific lease is for 24 months, which is relatively short. When you lease, you're essentially renting the vehicle — what you pay is the difference between what it costs new and what it costs at the end of the lease — depreciation. After two years, the Gladiator is expected to retain close to 90 percent of its value, a phenomenal number. That means you're paying 10 percent of the cost of the vehicle, plus fees, over 24 months.

I just scored a sweet 2013 Silverado Z71 off an old guy up the street. Under 50K miles, and dealer serviced since new.

What was that thing, about $70k? I can't believe how much Fords cost.

No, it's why I ordered it. Had to order it or pay lots of money. Dealers don't want to stock the one I got, I guess not enough profit, or desire from most customers. But in any case, it's here and done.\

I was in sticker shock when I first began the process, for sure.

The last F150 I bought new, was $15,600, 13 years ago.

I just saw where Yanmar is going to try to enter the US truck market. They are building a cheap looking Jeep knock-off somewhere in the Midwest. Indiana, I think.

Saw one of these outside a Target last weekend.

How much do you have to spend on a truck to not have a visible antenna?

At the time, we got the Ford A plan, which makes a Ford pretty cheap, plus some incentives at the time, and an inexpensive unit to begin with. It's was a good truck for 13 years.

Their marine engines have been really highly regarded for 25 years. I'm surprised a truck company hasn't utilized them already. They tend to be superior even to Cummins 5.9s and 8.3s in boats, but they're made to rev higher more like a vehicle.

They'll be 500k mile trucks if they don't have many mistakes in the engineering setup. The old ones weren't too cool though!

I noticed that the steering wheel was in the middle. The newer models are more Jeep-like instead of truck-like.
