It all depends on the money. There is a lot of money on the line here. Ben just signed an extension.

Ben has cashed the $37 mil signing bonus, so the remaining guaranteed money his 2019 roster bonus ($5 mil) and 2019 salary ($2.5 mil).

If he shut it down for good, he would forfeit the 2020 roster bonus ($12.5 mil) + ($8.5 mil salary), and 2021 roster bonus ($15 mil) + ($4 mil salary)...so all told, about $40 mil.

Has there ever been a guy who hasn't played people clamor for more than him (which ironically enough they all want him to go to a team that isn't there's)?

But that aside the year should be about figuring out if Mason Rudolph's got it and having that circus right behind him lingering over his every move and having an army of out-of-town dolts calling for Kaepernick every time Rudolph makes a bad throw sounds like a great way to destroy his development.
And that is also a silver lining of not having Brown and Bell around. Neither would support Rudolph in this process.

No reason to bring in a distraction. It's not like this isn't a mess than can be saved.

Roll with Mason, give him a chance without having to worry about some vet is there breathing down his neck. He has a good start. The line is good, he has JuJu and his favorite target from college (James Washington) who he absolutely has a report with.

Steelers have Delvin Hodges as backup. Not like him playing and failing is gonna change anything.

That could very well be, the deal is noted to have $37.5 mil guaranteed...maybe the 1st yr of the new money (2020) was guaranteed, but his signing bonus was reportedly $37.5 mil.

So now that Ben's career is over.
Who does the Steelers draft next year.
Do you guys think you use your 1st rounder on him or get a vet next year?

We don't know just how far the team will drop yet (are we talking top 10 pick?) If it were me I would use the money Ben might be opening up and trade for the CB from Jax, Jalen Ramsey and lock him up long term.

I figure for ben this is career ending.
I am just thinking of the injury itself for a QB vs. pitcher. my understanding is it takes forever to recover from.
I could be wrong here, but to me a pitcher requires more UCL/RCL strength than a QB does with a football. That said, there is evidence to the contrary. I believe there is a Pirates pitcher that's been pitching after a major UCL injury.

That said, I fully expect a Tommy-John surgery to end his career.

That's a bit unfortunate if that's how Ben's career ends. Been one of the toughest QBs in the NFL this past decade+.

Though the way Elway has been running things in Denver, wouldn't be surprised to see Elway take a chance on him if he wants to keep playing.

lol a lot of truth here.

Would be a devastating way to end such a great career if he hangs em up. He deserves better.

Unless I see the MRI, I'm gonna just assume he quit.

He had no interest in going 4-12 his last season.

As if we needed more reason to see Eli was the worst QB of the 04 first round.

So JP Losman (# 22 to the Bills) had a better career than Eli? Daaamn.

Hey it wasn't that great of a career if you ignore the wins, the Super Bowls, the yards & the TD's & only focus on the int's & fumbles.

I think this is the first time he'll ever be placed on IR and can't finish a season, which is kind of amazing considering how long he played and how many shots he took early on.

And two unforgivable losses to Cleveland
