The first 4 games of the season are always the toughest IMO. Players are just not in sync. I think the best teams come out 2-2, 3-1 or 4-0. Starting the season with a losing record could very well end your season.

On the plus side I am encouraged about the team as a whole because we are seriously battle tested now. We sucked early against the skins and dominated them late. Then we play a good falcons team at their home and it comes down to the wire. That fumble at the start of the second half killed us. Wentz played bad in the 1st half but was really good in the second half. I am Jim Schwartz biggest critic but he came up big in the second half. We got beat with the perfect play call against his defensive call. I will not question him there. The blitz was the right call.

Instead of separating themselves with early wins they will remain in a dogfight for a wildcard. Dallas is way better and it’s not close.

Agholor still ended up being responsible for that loss. He catches that ball in stride and he walks into the end zone. Chances of a win would have been high after that.

You are an fucking idiot. I think I will take your advice and put you on ignore. You are pathetic and are not an Eagles fan.

I agree with you. We have DJax and Alshon and I think we blow them out.
At the end of the day, the coaching staff needs to get the first half offense sorted out. They've scored something like 42 points in the first quarter going back to last season. It's not a sustainable model to be digging yourself out of 7-10 point holes every game.

Having Reich and DeFilippo poached after the SB run has probably been the biggest loss so far.

I agree there. The biggest problem today is after Alshon and Djax were determined to be hurt he did not make adjustments. He was pass first and the Falcons tee'd up on them and played pass all game.

He made the right decision once he saw that the safety/LB was coming, guy probably forces a fumble and it's a moot point.

Winnable game, tough loss. And it sucks because Agholor dropped the go-ahead score after making some tough plays earlier in the game.

Yep I was thinking of that too
But my point is is that it was 4th down with time running out
Ertz needs to take that chance
If he fumbles so what
Getting the first down is more important than the possibility of the fumble
Moot point as you said

The run wasn't particularly effective either.

Biggest problem with losing guys like that without a real chance to figure out your plan B. Sort of what happened last year in the one Dallas game.

Once Darby got hurt in the second half, the coaching staff didn't have a chance to put together an adjusted gameplan, and they didn't have anyone fast enough to run with Cooper.

I'd be willing to give the coaching staff the benefit of the doubt most of the time in a scenario where they lose Goeddert, Jeffery, and Jackson early, but the lack of a third TE is a self-inflicted wound, and their first quarter struggles are an established trend.

Still, for all that, they had chances to win that game.

He knew he was somewhere close to the sticks. It's better to hold onto the ball and hope you get it with forward progress than lose the ball reaching for the line.

What I don’t understand is - the Vikings beat the Falcons last week. They threw the ball 10 times and ran it 35+ times. Our top 2 WRs are out and we call 50 designed pass plays and only 20 runs.

Mind you...I thought the offense played better as the game went on...but we could have run more on this team. No doubt in my mind.

Ertz is normally very good with knowing where the first down line is. Didn’t happen on that play. Sucks.

but isn't that Reid/Pedersons MO?

if they see the running game not working for a few plays, they completely abandon it.......you still see it at times in KC

everyone just loves to pass pass pass pass, and i guess thats what the analytics say these days, but its not secret this team was at their best when they started running the hell out of the ball with Ajayi/Blount/Clement and again last year with Adams

this became another classic case of, oh my top WR's are out, so i bet they are gonna expect us to just run the ball...........nahhh, ima outsmart em by throwing 40+ times to guys like Agholor, Mack Hollins, and the 2nd round rookie

Yeah, we’ve seen it before. I’d just like to see a little more balance at times.

If Agholor catches that perfect in stride pass down the sidelines we more than likely win that game despite all the injuries and shaky first half play. That's what makes it so frustrating ....

This play is still perplexing me this morning.

1. Why would you have a TE of Ertzs caliber run to the sticks and turn around?

2. (And more importantly) was Ertz physically ok on that play? He took a shot earlier in the drive (where they spent a TO to get him right back out there) and I remember Collinsworth commenting something along lines of “can Ertz get his hands above his head right now?”

Yeah, he short armed it. But it might have nothing to do with ball protection and all to do with physical ability in the moment. What if he couldn’t fully extend for the line?

It’s all just unfortunate. But then.....had we deserved most of the game to be come up 18 inches short? If this is a playoff or a loss that takes us out of the playoffs I’m way more upset about coming up short of the sticks, obviously.

It's very early in the season and the loss doesn't bother me so much, but I am concerned about the huge rash of injuries.

Running game averaged 2.33 yards a carry (21 rushes for 49 yards). I’m in agreement that the run should have been pushed more early.

But we know these guys pass to set up the run. It’s always been the mentality. And when the passing game isn’t working and they try some runs that drive such paltry results the mentality is to get back to the passing to open things up.
