He's reportedly now definitely going to miss games. At this point, it's anyone's guess at what point he returns to the team. At some point, he doesn't just forfeit salary, but pushes the contract dispute into 2020, I think.

Teams have to take a stance on these RB's holding the team hostage.

Think Gordon finds a trade suitor? Or do you think he comes crawling back to the chargers because the league has learned their lesson about overpaying runningbacks?

think he has to come back. Also I dont think the Chargers should give him up for too cheap. if they decide to trade him.

Sit out and ruin their Super Bowl chances like Bell did to the Steelers.

Running backs are getting fucked. They take a pounding and do not get financially rewarded for it. All their contemporaries make more money and for longer.

Correct but it is an open market. Patriots could win with their #6 running back.....
Chargers don't need Gordon.

They can certainly participate in 16 games without him.

The running backs need their own union, especially if you want to call it an "open market" and ignore all the conditions that manipulate that market.

Some of this is just bad advice from agents. Many of these teams are willing to offer pretty good deals to these guys but they want more. Look at Leveon Bell.

Bottom line - Top running backs are not going to get the guaranteed money that they feel they deserve. Maybe they should get more per year then...but teams don’t want to do that either. It kind of sucks because you have guys who are the best RBs in the league who are opting not to play. I don’t think that’s sustainable for them though.

Value for position is something the players union should settle between themselves before the CBA expires. Think the RB position should be making more in the early stages of their career and QBs should be making less early on to off set it. QBs are getting all the lions share of $ right now and that means some other positions get the short end of the stick. Think that's has to be fixed by the players with the next CBA.

I like this idea. Problem is. To an agent whispering in his RBs ear. Just moved the bar for what we will hold out for when the time comes. I think this would make it more fair to the RB position, but wont fix the top RBs from holding out.

Teams need to stand firm on hold outs like the Chargers have done. They do that and the nonsense will stop.
