My memory could be failing me, but I don't recall any time in the Petersen-era in which we already had 18 commitments before the first game. I'd say there are two great things about this:

1. Early commitments mean they're definitely invested in the program.

2. The coaches likely won't have to dedicate as much time recruiting and scouting players throughout the season. I don't know how much that eats into their time commitment, but if a position coach already has all of his recruiting wrapped up it can open time up for other things.

I wonder what our chances with Ayden Hector are. A UW Dawg Pound post said that he looks like a Stanford lean, but that could potentially be a good thing for us. If I recall correctly many people said that about Trent McDuffie, but I don't think he was academically eligible. Unfortunately if Elijah Jackson commits as well, there might not be room for him although I'd hope they'd try to squeeze him in if he wants to come to UW.

I think they only take one more DB for the class so its really coming down to Hector or Jackson.

And I suspect that the lure of Stanford who isn't completely overloaded with DBs on the roster may end up being his ultimate choice for Hector. If he's got the grades, it's hard to turn down that Stanford degree.

Hate to lose on instate talent like that, but our roster of DB talent is like never been seen before at UW so it's one of those rare ones where we can't moap about it like it's some massive whiff.

Dont think we take both so it's going to probably be sorted out by the end of month. Right now I say Hector to Stanford and Jackson to UW.

It's an adjustment to the early signing date now. Most teams are building their classes earlier. And Petersen has said it's not exactly optimal for how he traditionally likes to recruit and land the verbals. For the schools where academics matter, they're having to take some gambles that their targets are committed to the school work and athletic development by only the end of their junior seasons.
But he said it is what it is, and they"ll adjust as they have to make it work.
In some ways it is a gift horse because we're winning 10+ games a season now, and last year win the pac and went to the rose bowl. It's not like we have beg right now. Players want to be Huskies, few will be able to wait till Nov and Dec anymore to string things out.

I think the kid gets it from his dad. Both seem to be a couple of narcissistic pricks.

Good insight. I thought it was just a result of stronger recruiting. I think the Huskies have like 4 more open slots and for whatever reason I swear that the past few years, 6-12 of our commitments came during the season or after. I'm probably wrong on that so please don't double check me lol.
