New coach, new players, new era. Who all is headed to Motown game 1?

I'm not expecting a world beater team this year but I DO think that we could be sneaky good, I'm excited!

I’ll be there! I bought season tickets again. So... I’ll be making the 15 hr round trip visit about 5 times this year.

Just returned from Morgantown last night. Got my boy moved into his apartment over the weekend. Not much buzz in town for the team.

Hopefully they kick JMU’s ass and create their own buzz for the rest of the season...

We are headed up as well, camping trip with some friends and ballgame weekend.

I've noticed that too as far as buzz, at least in the southern part of the state. The folks I talk to seem to like what they see/hear about Coach Brown so far but just don't know that much about him and what he has done at other places.

He gets some success and imo he will be a huge hit all over, guy has checked all the boxes so far when it comes to being a class act and leader but now comes the hard part, winning games.

some of it may be just as simple as one of my coworkers says about WVU football, " I'll always root for WVU but I have to be honest, I could care less about playing Iowa State or Texas Tech ect. OU and Texas aside I have lost a ton of interest since we joined the Big12."

That could be a lot of WVU fans and that's understandable imo.

I'll be at work, so no game for me. If I'm lucky I'll get to listen to it.

I don’t know what it is... just seems like everyone is down on this year. I understand expectations are low... Vegas has us at 5 or 6 wins... Big 12 Media picked us to finish 8th. But, there have been other years when the team was inexperienced and WVU’s marketing team pushed the hype. Not this year.

What number jersey does every WV kid want their parents to buy them this year? That’s what I’m talking about...

I have heard so many mixed views about the season, but I think people need to take it one game at a time, especially getting momentum from the first game against JMU. But are there any current injuries we need to worry about? I heard about Kendall's plantar fasciitis, but it looks like that has cleared up. Just want to be prepared for everything this season.

This team has zero depth...and attrition will catch up to them by week 4...and it will be down hill from there..

I just think he means the other teams just FEEL so distant/disconnected from us that the interest is just not there like it was with VT/Pitt/Maryland ect. I get it (at least to a point) , CFB as a product is better and has made its name on regional/local rivalries and we (as well as some other schools) have definitely lost that since realignment. Its great that we will play VT/Pitt/PSU again but imo at least one of those schools should be on the schedule every single year.

Personally I'd try it one more time with Pitt/VT and maybe PSU but if none of those were interested then I'd do everything in my power to lock Maryland or MAYBE Cincy in to a 15-20 year deal to play every year game 1, home n home, trophy, the whole 9 yards and put Marshall back on the schedule for one of our "gimmie" games every year early in Morgantown then a FCS tomato can in November to break up the Big12 grind.

Agree, keep expectations tempered, keep one of the chicken bowls as the ceiling then anything better ( than 6-7 wins) would just be gravy on the biscuits. If its 5 or less wins then... chalk it up as a rebuild year and look forward to 2020 and beyond.

What injuries do we have to worry about?

We’re actually in pretty solid shape injury wise heading into the season. But, we know we’re in trouble if one of our starting tackles on the OL goes down. There has been no mention of kids pushing Wickline or McKivitz... or course McKivitz is considered a next level player for us.

We’re obviously a little thin in the secondary. The group at Safety are inexperienced as well as lacking numbers.

I don't disagree about sprinkling in some local flavor..but honestly...and its just my opinion.. if your not playing those teams year in and year out that doesn't flip my pickle either...BBW and I went saw the VA Tech game at Fedex...outside of a little jumpin around to Sandman...the game just didn't feel the same...just more nostalgic than value..

I can understand that too.

JMO but I think if it were yearly then things would be different but yea, every.... :noidea: 3-5-10 years between games doesn't really “fuel the hate” like it does when you see them every year and smack talk the opposing fans locally.

I preferred the old Big East when Miami and Vt were in the conference.

I'll miss the JMU game this year but will catch most of the rest.

Well, fun times up at the college yesterday.
Took a bit for the whole crowd to finally make it inside the stadium. I suspect a few too many pops and catching up with old friends at the tailgates but man once everyone was in there, what an atmosphere for the new HC and team.

Pitt makes the most sense as our yearly OOC game now with the history ect. though I prefer the VT series personally.

VT has UVA so that makes sense for them, Miami just seems... lije another Big12 team at this point imo, just goo far away. Pitt would love to have PSU every year but Penn State seems to have told them to pound sand as far as a yearly and that’s understandable considering the history and the JoPa offer/Pitt/BEast snub years ago.

Maybe WVU should be used as center for realignment:

WVU
Pitt
UVA
Ohio State
Penn State
Maryland
VT
UK
UT
Michigan

Looks like a fun conference to me :thumb:

Forge may have been against Paterno’s idea but it would have been up to Pitt’s AD. It wasn’t only Pitt that resists, but other schools. Then low and behold comes the Big East. PSU attempts to join but are given the excuse that their basketball program is too weak to join. Sounds familiar with WVU and the ACC?

Before the game, my family talked about Neal’s honeymoon period with Mountaineer fans.... how long would it last? It lasted 3 qtrs.

The boo birds came out when he chose to run up the middle on a 3rd and long play to set up a FG attempt. Today, I’m reading threads on various boards about his poor play calling and unnecessary gamble on 3rd and long with a little over 1 min left in the game... passing attempt instead of a rushing attempt.

I love WVU fans...

Trust the Climb...
