54 Seasons: Believe-land?

cae6617feeaf4d2f921bf55b6fd731c6.jpg

The Cleveland Browns have never won a Super Bowl. They put their fans through the emotional wringer every week. But once upon a time, an NFL season was not a ritual existential crisis for Clevelanders.

The Browns won five NFL championship titles before the Super Bowl existed, and the former franchise-turned-Baltimore Ravens won Super Bowl XLVII in 2012.

Although there was no Browns team for three seasons — 1996, 1997 and 1998 — the Browns' team name and history belong to Cleveland, where they last won an NFL championship in 1964.

Every year you put up a post with 4 lines and 6 defense and some players that can come in case of injury and finish a long worded post that goes something like this : this team looks good it has a lot of depth as well as solid offense which probably can play with anyone in the league and could make a playoff run.

I'd love to see the posts claiming they could contend from '15-'18. I spent most of those off seasons trying to convince you to be patient while the Flyers wait for the kids to develop. Never said they could make playoff runs, just that they had to adjust their strategy for a cap world. Meanwhile you kicked and screamed about them not doing anything. Now the kids have finally developed a little and you kick and scream about them doing things to try to improve the team in the short term because it doesn't guarantee a cup. News flash, there's no such move.

The real common thread has been you bitching about everything they do for years. If I complained about something as often as you bitch about the Flyers, I'd stop doing whatever that was. Sounds pretty miserable TBH.

And then there's the 2018/19 Columbus Blue Jackets..... Wow, what moves they made for their Cup run. Now they're at 50:1 odds for 2019/20. "When Kekalainen pushed all his chips to the center of the table, there were plenty who applauded his boldness. Perhaps because of that, there was pushback against the assumption that Columbus would bottom out after this season. Certainly, there is enough talent there to ensure this team does not completely fall apart. To think that a team that barely squeezed into the playoffs and has won one playoff series in its history somehow got better or will be just as good next season, however, is laughable and you need only look at the goalie situation to realize it.

If you choose to live in fairyland so be it if the shoe fits. Anyone who is a fan of this team and isn't complaining after not winning anything for 45 years and missing the playoffs 3 of the last 6 years and getting booted in round 1 the other three years is just plain going on blind faith just as you are. You keep wishing for fairy tales and ill keep complain if we lose again.

Yep. That was a very aggressive move by Kekalainen. One the one had, you can appreciate his boldness. On the other hand, you can look at what he did as recognition that last year was going to be their best chance at winning for the foreseeable future. He knew he was unlikely to sign Panarin or Bob and trading for Duchene was also a clear rental situation. He pushed all his chips in rather than try to get assets for Panarin or Bob (and keep them instead of dealing for Duchene) on the assumption that it was his best chance to win. Because if he had dealt them all away, and planned on being competitive again in 3-4 years; he probably would've been fired by then anyway.

I honestly don't care at all what they've done for 45 years. Those years don't matter for one second when it comes to winning this year. And I will hope away that they win this year, because where's the fun in expecting them not to?

They are 50:1 and we are 40:1 not good for either team.

If it doesn't matter to you that the Flyers haven't won a cup in 45 years and haven't made in 4 of last 7 years to me that's the epitome of just going on blind faith. Expecting them not to win is being realistic since it has happened 45 years in a row and if they do its a pleasant surprise.

Well then, enjoy expecting them to suck! :suds:

Being a fan of a team is just that - being a fan. Has nothing to do with blind faith or decades of rage.

Having opinions on moves teams make is just like assholes, everyone has one.

"Rumors are starting to kick around about Travis Konecny being possibly maybe sort-of close to signing a deal. No one has written an actual journalistic article about these rumors just yet, they only exist in the ephemeral world of Twitter"

Ok... I swear this is the last Browns comment on this hockey forum.... but it does continue the theme of aggrieved fans....and it's hard to find more aggrieved fans than Brown fans.

Wall Street Journal article making fun of the RAIDERS.... and my Browns still get picked on... even with the backhanded compliment.

"Once, the Oakland Raiders inspired fear. Now, giggles.

You may find it sad, for the once-menacing franchise of John Madden, Ken “The Snake” Stabler, Jack “The Assassin” Tatum and Fred Biletnikoff to be reduced to a withering punch line.....—But I think it’s useful for football, to still have one goofy NFL team that can barely find its way out of the locker room.

Besides, the Cleveland Browns are said to be winning the Super Bowl this year. We need to look elsewhere for yuks, people."
