I think the game continuously evolves.

Each generation is better than the next.

I don't even think a guy like Oscar Robertson could play in today's NBA despite him being one of the best players of all time.

That said, Jordan wasn't that long ago, and he was an amazing athlete.

I think where he would really feel it is defensively. He'd be going from guarding guys like Adrian Dantley to Jason Tatum. Ouch.

That said, today's stars play no defense anyway.

Offensively, I think he'd be OK. I don't think he'd be the top player, but in the Top 20.

So you assume that if stars from the past were playing today, they wouldn't take advantage of all of the advances in science, training, etc. that today's players use? Or that they wouldn't adjust to how the game is played now?

Lol.

I mean seriously, how far do you want to take this?

At what point in his life do we bring Jordan in from the time machine? As a 8 year old? Then yes, he'd be the greatest player to ever live ... no contest.

As a generality, they start kids earlier, tons of good players these days are kids of former pros, and they're pitted against the best comp from such an early age (AAU). So, they've been around the game at the highest level their whole lives.

I think it would be enough to knock him off his perch, but he'd still be really, really good.

Some other players from that era would fare far worse. But I'm not going there...

Fuck yes. Today's NBA is Charmin soft. 90s NBA had a larger quantity of quality big men, more competitive teams, better defense around the league, and none of the "minutes management" nights off bullshit for star players.

The expansion of the 90's diluted the competition, it became a watered down league. Jordan's teams were stacked while others teams weren't. His own team won only a few less after he left the play baseball. I don't think defense was necessarily better. Teams slowed the game down to stay competitive against better teams making the defensive stats look better than they were. Defensive was just different so it was a bit difficult to saw which was tougher. I think Jordan worse defensively in this fast paced league, though.

I am going to wager Jordan would have been a badass 3 point shooter if he came into the game today. So I am gonna say yes, imo.

Like i said, like Jordan better. Making even average players better.

I don't think Jordan makes players much better than Westbrook, both are ball hogs with Jordan having a scorer's mentality and Wesbrook having a facilitator/scorer mentality. I think I might end up being close to a wash...TBH.

Dude, the NBA in today's era is way more about what's happening off the floor than on. Players hardly play hard until after the ASG. The top players are all best of friends and compete in a manner that I would compare to the intensity of every single NFL pro bowl. It sucks, it's garbage.

Jordan made the 90s Bulls. They were a good playoff team without him but they couldn't get out of the semis. Jordan came back and they win 72 games and a title in his first full season. The guy transcended the game. Ultimate competitor. He'd dominate today's game.

Jordan did not have an elite 3 because it was not a huge part of the game at the time. I have no doubt that prine Jordan in today's NBA would have put in the time be a threat from the outside. Jordan was also one of the best defenders while being the best scorer. You rarely see that.

Also, Jordan put up those numbers when it was legal to mug someone in the paint. I cant imagine what he does when he takes so much less contact.

Clearly you're a MLB fan and don't watch the NBA. Teams are battling hard for final playoff spots throughout the year. Jordan played during the most water downed time of the league where teams could just take off nights with all the weak competition.

Without Jordan the Bulls were close to beating the Knicks in the semis and probably would have if it weren't for a bogus foul call on Hubert Davis in game 5. Jordan came back the next year and got spanked by the Magic. After getting bounced out of the playoffs, the Bulls had get one of the best rebounders and defenders to ever play the game to help Jordan get to the finals again. Jordan without a super team around him would get trounced in today's game.

If you consider Bosh, Wade and Lebron an elite 3 then why aren't you considering MJ, Pippen, Rodman an elite 3. Jordan had Ron Harper to boot, who was at or near 20 ppg scorer for several seasons.
