The Jets did not draft any offensive linemen this year, but they may make a veteran addition to the group.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that tackle Byron Bell is working out for the team on Monday.

Bell spent last season with the Cowboys and made a couple of starts in place of left tackle Tyron Smithdue to injuries. He also relieved Chaz Green, who initially started in place of Smith, in a loss to the Falcons after Falcons defensive end Adrian Clayborn recorded the first five of his six sacks on the day.

Bell also made 72 starts for the Panthers and Titans from 2011-2015.

The Jets have Kelvin Beachum at left tackle and Brandon Shell at right tackle with Ben Ijalana and Brent Qvale on hand as reserve options.

Draft a QB then get him some help along the OL to protect him. I like the direction the Jets are going in.

The safety market has been relatively quiet this offseason, but Kenny Vaccaro is starting to generate some interest.

Vaccaro’s next scheduled visit is with the Jets, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports. He just visited the Colts and has previously visited the Dolphins, so Vaccaro seems to be drawing interest.

Only seven of the players in our Free Agent Top 100 remain unsigned, and most of them are safeties. Vaccaro, the No. 27 player overall, is the highest-ranked unsigned player. Also unsigned are safeties Tre Boston, Eric Reid and Tyvon Branch.

Vaccaro is drawing enough interest that he could sign soon, which may help set the market for the position and get other safeties signed.

Jets coach Todd Bowles said early this month that he wasn’t sure how full a participant quarterback Teddy Bridgewater would be during the Organized Team Activity phase of the team’s offseason program.

Bowles added that he wanted to see Bridgewater “out there throwing and competing” with everyone else and things got off to a good start on that front Tuesday. According to multiple reports from Jets practice, Bridgewater, who has only played a handful of plays since injuring his knee in August 2016, followed Josh McCown in quarterback drills with first-round pick Sam Darnold going third in the order.

Bridgewater continued to work in team drills, so it seems like any limitations are minor ones at this point in the schedule.

Several of those reports include video of Bridgewater dropping back and throwing passes and he looks smooth enough doing it, although that’s the bare minimum you’d expect during a May practice conducted at a comfortable pace. If Bridgewater should continue to look good as things ramp up, it will make for a more interesting quarterback competition this summer.

Among the players taking part in the first OTA of the Jets offseason is wide receiver Quincy Enunwa, who missed all of last season with a neck injury.

Enunwa isn’t wearing a helmet, so he’s still limited but being on the field is a step up from what Terrelle Pryor is up to on Tuesday. Pryor, who signed with the Jets in March, is not taking part in practice and Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that the wideout is recovering from an ankle injury.

Pryor’s 2017 season with Washington also ended because of an ankle injury and he required surgery to repair it before he hit the market as a free agent. Pryor’s lone season in D.C. was largely a bust as he caught just 20 passes in nine games after a 77-catch/1,007-yard 2016 season with the Browns.

Enunwa’s return and Pryor’s signing added to the depth at receiver for the Jets. They also have Robby Anderson and Jermaine Kearse back after solid 2017 seasons and round out the group with Chad Hansen, ArDarius Stewart, Devin Smith, Andre Roberts and Charone Peake.

The Christian Hackenberg era has come to an end for the Jets, after zero games played.

Hackenberg has been traded to the Raiders for a conditional seventh-round draft pick.

The Jets took Hackenberg in the second round of the 2016 NFL draft, so to settle for a seventh-round pick for him now is a major disappointment. But realistically, it was never going to work for Hackenberg with the Jets: He looked bad in preseason action and the practices that were open to the public, and with Sam Darnold now in town, there was zero chance of Hackenberg ever emerging as the Jets’ starter.

Can he do anything in Oakland? Raiders coach Jon Gruden was a fan of Hackenberg’s coming out of Penn State, saying before the 2016 draft that Hackenberg should be a first-round pick. So Gruden may think Hackenberg has a chance.

In Oakland, Hackenberg will be competing for a backup spot behind Derek Carr. Perhaps Gruden can help him develop into a starter some day. That day is likely a long way away, but at least he has a coach who likes his potential now that he’s a Raider. With the Jets, the Hackenberg experiment was doomed to failure.

There won’t be any third thoughts for safety J.J. Wilcox when it comes to picking a team for the 2018 season.

The Jets officially announced Wilcox’s signing on Wednesday afternoon. Their plan to sign him first surfaced on Tuesday while Wilcox was at the 49ers facility with the expectation that he would be signing with them.

Wilcox joins the Jets in the wake of news that safety Rontez Miles is going to miss 3-4 months after having surgery to repair a torn meniscus. Wilcox, who played 12 games for the Steelers last season and spent the first four years of his career in Dallas, gives them an experienced backup to second-year starters Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye at safety.

The Jets waived linebacker Freddie Bishop in a corresponding move. He had 19 tackles in nine games over the last two seasons.

It's safe to say Rontez Miles will be cut before the season starts. I don't know about any of you but I'm really digging what the Jets have done at the safety position. Adams-Maye-Wilcox is a pretty damn good trio of safeties if you ask me.
