Would be tough to have zero experience in the TE room but if Heuerman is best out by the least experienced players better for the team. Flacco can help guide the young guys

I'd say it is even money Butt's body won't hold up. Also the Broncos like Bug Howard and the kid from Wyo - who could hold down practice squad jobs.

Heuerman has not been overly healthy in his career.

I'll bet - based on past experience - Lock signs on the eve of training camp too.

That is today or tomorrow. I hope that happens.

They need Risner in there right now, as a starter this year. If the Drew Lock thing drags on for a few days, it's not the end of the world. More than likely, he won't see the field as the starting QB for 1-2 years, if all goes well with the Flacco experiment.

PS When is the last time we had a rookie hold out? I feel like it has been a very long time.

I’d be tempted to drop Lock to #4 on the initial depth chart if I were Fangio due to this little stunt.

We have to remember that players (especially rookies) listen to their agents and sometimes too much. This is part of the business and I believe that it has more to do with the agent then Lock. Punishing a player is not the right move in my opinion. Now if he misses significant time and is not able to perform at the level of the other players at their position the rank him accordingly on the depth chart.

That’s because the NFL’s slotting system was supposed to virtually eliminate that.

Right but even before that. And holdouts still do exist. Just not many. Joey Bosa the most recent noteable. I don’t ever recall a Bronco rookie holding out pre slotting system.

I don’t think Lock would panic. He clearly knows Denver didn’t draft him in rd 2 to “fight for a roster spot”, weather he is 3 or 4 on paper doesn’t really matter coming into camp.

Camp hasn’t started yet either. If he misses days then maybe. But it doesn’t really matter not like he is gonna get cut.

I agree that it's frustrating to see rookies hold out and a lot of the blame is laid at the feet of their agents but at the same time, I understand their position. Whatever Lock agrees to will be his deal for the next four years. Arguably, he should be the starting quarterback within that time span and he (and his agent) are thinking ahead and not getting enamored with a big paycheck today.

I honestly don't think this thing will drag out much and either the Broncos will remain firm or give him a small, meaningless bump in the greater scheme of things, to elevate his pay above what Risner is receiving.

He chooses to listen to his agent. That’s the key. He’s as much a part as the agent as a result. There’s a reason for the rookie pay scale that was established.

It is nothing but negotiating - until it becomes a hold out. Lock and his agent will not be crowd favorites if they hold out over this principle - and I believe they know it. Deals happen at the last minute all the time.

Robert Ayers and Aaron Burbridge retired.

Burbridge had a shot at the PS but was often injured.

Really this is the only time in the next 6 years Lock has any type of leverage. After that Denver owns him for 4 years and then maybe 2 franchise tag years.
