Oh ya, no risk to the cap at all. I'm just worried about having a goalie that's NHL caliber if Hart gets injured or struggles and needs a break.
I guess the thought is with a reduced role he can stay healthy. A risk in my book.

My only real worry with Elliot is when he has to come in off the bench, not starting. With his injury history, that is one thing I really worry about. Put him in cold and he goes to move laterally and POP.

Other than that, he's a good soldier. The team like him. And 2million in this market is a good deal. Could they have done "better"? Maybe, but they still have to sign Provorov, TK and Laughton. Yeah, Laughton should be easy...Raffl money really. TK and Provorov are the tricky ones. From what I am hearing Provy's agent is not making negotiations any smoother. That could be part of the hold up. I think we all know that the Flyers want to get this done, but they are not going to just open the safe.

Time will tell.

Of course it's just my opinion. I'm not on speaker phone with GM conversations. But all of that makes sense, at least on some level, does it not? The Islanders, sure maybe they wanted to add more offense, but that's one team. The Rangers wanting Trouba and Subban would just be stupid GM'ing. Trouba makes sense because he's likely a part of their rebuilding future. Why would they want 30 yr old Subban when their truly competitive window won't open for another few years? And if they did pull a 180 from like 12 months ago when they said they were entering a rebuild, and were trying to be competitive this season, is having 35% of your cap tied up on your 6 dmen a good plan? Not to mention you'd have a $9M RHD and Trouba is probably $7.5M, also a RHD. When your forward group is as anemic as they are, I don't think so. The 2nd big splash would be to try to land a top forward through trade or FA.

And the 16 or so teams that can't afford him, that's not really my opinion. They literally can't afford him. Sure they could make some trades and move pieces around, but how often do teams put their roster in a blender while trying to stay competitive (which would be a requirement to adding Subban and his contract)? Almost never. Doesn't mean it can't happen, just means that it probably won't. NHL GM's just don't do that very often; for whatever reason.

And I'm not alone in my line of thinking. One of the major Canadian guys, can't remember which, said the list of teams that were interested and could take the whole Subban deal was pretty short; in response to the return Nashville got. That's why I say these things. I just went through the list and put some details and guesses to what he said.

All I'm saying is I don't think it's that much of a logical leap to think Nashville had very limited options when it came to moving Subban and his entire contract. That dramatically reduced their return.

Stumbled across it again this afternoon. Here's Friedman in his 31 Thoughts from Monday:

8. Here’s Devils GM Ray Shero on the PK Subban trade timeline: “Friday night, (Nashville GM David Poile) was trying to make a decision and he said, ‘I’ll call you tonight.’ He didn’t…and that’s not like David, really. So this morning, I was having coffee with (Devils owner) Josh Harris, and (David) called me, and first apologized for not calling (Friday night). He just said, ‘Listen, I’m not gonna wait on something else that I’m looking at, do you want to do this?’ and I said, ‘Yeah.’”

Poile said in his post-draft availability that there were four teams, with New Jersey being the only one that could take Subban’s full contract. I believe Toronto and Vancouver were two of the other three. It sounds like the Predators wanted Adam Gaudette in the package from Vancouver, but — and this is my sense more than absolute truth — that the Maple Leafs went harder at Subban. I think they’re the team Poile was waiting on.

I think the problems with Elliot tended to occur more when Hak would start him too many games in a row in an effort to keep his own job, rather than when he came in cold. If Vigneault goes with something like a 55/27 Hart/Elliot split of starts and doesn’t try to ride the hot hand too long I think they should be ok.

See now this i can live with. Good job.

I also think we could've taken on the whole contract had we not pre jaculated in the trades for Nisky and Braun.

I just read Talbot didn't sign with us because he wants to be a starter.

Agree with you both on Talbot. I would've been fine signing him as a backup, but lol @ going in to the season with him as your #1.

Really curious to see where the Duchene and Pavelski contracts come in. Both have been very active in talking to teams this week.

To be honest Las subban not coming here is a blessing in disguise. His play has dropped off and his shenanigans have worn out their welcome over time. If he were cheap that would be a different story but not at 9 M. Preds were a good team and where did he take them...

Elliott will be solid, like you said just needs to stay healthy.
