ND's SOS in 2012 was 21st according to Sagarin. Also, he didn't take over a team with a ton of talent.

Kelly took over in 2010... ND recruiting classes 4 years prior

2006 - 8th
2007 - 8th
2008 - 2nd
2009 - 21st

He had some talent. Might not have been visible since Weis wasn't a good coach, but according to rivals, he had talent. Especially when you are comparing Wittingham and Kelly in this regard.

I probably should have clarified my statement when I was talking about ND schedules. I was not saying 2012 was a bad year... but I will absolutely say it wasn't a great year. Much better than last year though if we are comparing ND 18 to ND 12.

I don't think I would think much about ND schedule at all if I didn't feel like EVERY year I hear someone talking about how difficult it is.

Oh it wasn't a joke. I am not saying that ND has the easiest schedule every year, but typically I don't ever find it being one of the most difficult. Look at last year for example... 7 of NDs regular season opponents were .500 or worse.

But again, this stems from the feeling that I hear how tough NDs schedule is every year and its usually BS.

He didn't inherit much talent. Most of those players were vastly overrated coming out of high school. ND only produced 1 pick in 2011 and 4 in 2012. 2013 draft ND produced 6 and in 2014 draft ND produced 8. It also should be noted ND lost Clausen and Tate for the 2010 season so scrap that from those rankings.

And sure ND's schedule last year wasn't great. But that's an outlier compared to the rest of the time. And it's not like we can help teams like SC, VT and FSU all decided to have their worst teams in 3 or 4 decades.

ND has never had an SOS higher than 38 in Kelly's era. To compare that to last year, Ohio State had the 38th ranked schedule. FWIW. All according to Sagarin.

A 61% winning percentage coach.
14 Bowl Games with a record of 6-7-1
Did go to 3 Rose Bowls, but was 0-3 in those.
vs. Michigan 4-11
vs Ohio State 3-12
