It has to be Domingo Santana, right? But if it wasn't for that dumbass MLB rule that every franchise has to be represented, would Santana even be selected for the game? Sure, he has an all star-type RBI total (2nd among AL outfielders), but RBI has come to be seen as more of a team stat in recent years. Meanwhile, he is 13th among AL outfielders in OPS, 13th in homeruns, 14th in runs scored, and 16th in OBP.

Vogelbach might actually be a better choice. Among AL first basemen, he's second in homeruns, first in OPS, and second on OBP, 5th in runs scored and 5th in RBI. But he has only started 13 games at first base, and the game is in DC so I guess that means no DH. That will hurt his chances.

Is there a chance they both make the All Star team? Maybe, but I doubt it. I think it will be Santana...unless they want Voggy in the homerun derby.

I say Felix. Just ask him and he will tell you he still thinks he is an A.S.

With how the AL is, most likely Narvaez is the most likely. I’m not sure how the new HR derby rules are in terms of it they have to be an AS because I’d like to see Vogelbach in the derby.

Not trolling. But is Ichiro still technically on the roster

I heard he's just like Verlander after the first inning

I know they changed the voting rules so I don't completely know how it works now, but I'd assume it would be Vogelbach or Narvaez. I would be quite surprised if Santana made the All-Star game due to his awful defense and luck with RBIs.

I would love to see Vogelbach at the home run derby.

I think Omar Narvaez could have a shot Gary Sanchez is the shoe in starter but for the backup role it will be close between Omar Narvaez and Mitch Garver.

How many outfielders are voted in the game? If its 5 OF then Trout, Springer, Trey Mancini,

Joey Gallo maybe, Max Kepler maybe and a few others it would be pretty close he would need some more homers and RBIs It would be great to see Vogel atleast in the home run derby but with his fat ass only having 9 doubles all season would be the reason why he probably wont make it

Which makes Edgar even more special as Vogelbach has more speed than Edgar had through the prime of his career.

It's Voggy! Maybe they'll ask him to be in the derby

That still cracks me up that they picked the fat kid to play in the game. Santana or the catcher deserved it more in my eyes, but I never watch so I really don't care. It just makes JD look better that he got an All-Star for a LH reliever.

I might be wrong about this but my understanding was that at least one player from each team had to be included on the AS team. Is that true?

AL squad only has two catchers that I saw. Sanchez is the clear front runner but after him it gets cloudy. They selected McCann but our guy actually leads AL catchers in runs scored. Unfortunately he is back a ways in RBI, OBP, and OPS. Add in questionable defense and the reasoning kinda comes forward.

I thought it would be Santana but I guess the entire league is aware of his shitty defense.

Vogelbach won't see the field. He'll get one AB as a pinch hitter and then he will be done. But I wonder who would pitch for him if he is in the derby?

The All-Stars are never picked or excluded because of their defense that I can remember. I mean nothing against Chubs, but he is no defensive wiz himself. I really don't care, but I did think he was 3rd on our list of options. You are probably right that position played a role with the catchers.

I would like to see someone like Bob's Big Boy pitch to him.

I take it back. I looked up some WARs by position and Bob'b Big Boy (AKA Vogelbach) ranked 2nd in WAR for AL 1B and 1st in WAR for AL DH. He is the right choice and good for him.

Even if he had bad defense the man did lead the entire american league in RBIs at the time of the voting. What was the case for Austin Meadows making it over him?
