Jesus H, Will Smith is a fucking monster. I know he's got to go but how cool would it be seeing him pitch for us like this? The timing just doesn't work, gonna get a haul for him :nod:
I wasn't really excited about the deal (but was all for Melancon). Maybe its a good thing the Giants don't always listen to me.

Giants 9-5 in June.

Pitchers are 3rd in ERA (3.46) in NL in June.

Hitters have picked up to an almost respectable .695 OPS in June (still 13th in NL).

Amazing how quickly people give up here.

I don't think most of us even had hope for anything but a high draft pick so I'm not sure we ever "gave up".

The results so far are tzill approved, I would guess.
Understatement of the season.

QS, young SP looks good, 3-2 game, Gs beat doyers.

What is possibly NOT to like?

I think its going to be borderline. He likes to measure (generally) how well he liked the game by the PQS score, which completely eliminates runs. The low hits will be good, as will the strikeouts, but the walks will be a damper.
Its a PQS of 3, which is competent. He needs to go a little deeper in the game (one more out would've been a PQS of 4) and reduce walks. But the eye test could've told you that.

If you're "not sure" you gave up, then you gave up.

I assumed that you meant we gave up during the season and so I was trying to say that we never had hopes for a competitive season to begin with.
I'm not ready to give up on a high draft pick but it is nice to see some winning baseball. I think a bad season would be not fielding a team that really had a chance to make the playoffs but was mediocre enough to put us in the lower 2/3rds or half of the draft.

Maybe I'm a hopeless romantic, but I'm not giving up on this season just yet.

It might be different if we had a boatload of good prospects in the minors but we don't.

So my heart is still with trying to win this season. The bullpen is there. The defense is there. The SP s are coming around. The hitting is coming around. I sense these guys are starting to believe in themselves.

Anything is possible, I just don’t see it. And as you said, the cupboard is bare, so no reinforcements coming.

This team has middle-of the-road starting pitching; near elite bully; above average defense and epic-bad offense. What about that composition says playoffs to you?

With a billion teams in front of them. But respect to Mays Fan. No harm in hoping.
Stranger things have happened, just with the Gs in the last 10yrs. And as I posted else where, the d's run production is down more than 25% in jun.

That's a very generous assessment.

Sorry, you are right.

The “middle-of-the-road” isn’t that good...

I read it as "average," which I think overstates where the SP are at:

ERA -- 11th in NL
QS -- 12th
BAA -- 10th
K -- 13th.

Maybe it's just semantics, but I see this staff as "wrong side of the road," i.e. below average.

Note that those stats INCLUDE an elite bullpen. If you were to remove the bullpens numbers, it'd be even worse.

The SP is coming around. Look at this this month, not the whole season. Even the offense is showing some life, last night notwithstanding.

If the veteran hitters (Crawford, Panik, Posey) can pick it up, we will continue to win more games than we lose (9-6 in June including last night's loss). Whether that will be enough to win the Wild Card, I don't know.

The minors suck. Rebuilding is a folly. That only leaves one option.

You are looking at the whole year numbers. Fine, but I see the trend (June, last night notwithstanding) as what counts.
