Winning more with the Raptors can and will absolutely improve his status.
He has 2 rings. 1 when he was still an up and comer on the tail end of the Spurs dynasty. About where Siakam is now, Kawhi just happened to win Finals MVP because he played great and the big 3 had all declined a bit.
He was being compared to some ridiculous names like MJ during this run. But right now, he has 1 ring as an elite player.
I he can get another along with an MVP award or 2, whether in Toronto, LA, or anywhere else he will start cementing his leagacy among all time greats.
70+ games next year should make Kawhi front runner for the MVP. He can get there in Toronto. A lot more to gain if he keeps playing at the level he did this playoffs for the next few years.
If he were to sign say a 2-3 year deal, with the last year being an option year that could be good. Siakam is really blossoming into a nice 2nd option, he is a nice fit along Kawhi. They still have Lowry but he has one left on his contract. I don't know if he would be coming back after one year but who knows if they contend again next year. Same with Gasol, he would come back with his player option plus he won't get better than that on the market. He will have the exact same team minus Danny Green and I'm sure he would come back as well.
I think staying with the Raptors could be his best move as far as NEXT YEAR. Warriors will be hurt. The East still has some talented teams in PHI and MIL.
