Sources: Lakers reach deal for Pelicans' Davis

I think the Pelicans could have gotten a better deal if they waited until the offseason started, or waited until the trade deadline.

But the # 4 pick isn't bad.

I’m not as familiar with the NBA draft as NFL. It seems like having only two picks is huge in a general draft versus seven for an NFL team, even though there are more players on NFL teams.

If they are going to lose AD, turning down the #4 pick now for what? They can trade the number four pick as well. Maybe a draft day trade would do, and I know that the Lakers wouldn’t take the number for off the table, but you can’t trade that after the draft, even though you could trade the player you drafted. But a pick is maybe better than trading for another player.

The Lakers with LeBron injured for much of the year should’ve gotten a worse pick than number four, so they lucked out there and if they waited for the trade deadline, they would likely be trading with the team that is better and therefore less likely to get a good pick. I know the odds of getting a better pick isn’t less (the percentage is static) but how often do you luck out twice?

They could have still gotten the player the Lakers picked with the # 4 pick, later. They just could have gotten more from the Lakers, such as Kuzma, who is better than Ingram.

That's one example.

They also could have seen how the Zion Williamson and Anthony Davis pairing went.

And it would also have given them time to evaluate the Lakers # 4 pick, to see if he was good.

If not, maybe they could have tried the Knickerbockers high draft pick instead.

Or get less, have less of the off-season, more press, etc. The Lakers could trade the #4 elsewhere. Boston was an option, but what do they have? Seriously asking because I don’t know. They were the favorites to get him.

Boston has some established guys on rookie contracts like Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown. Maybe their ceiling isn't as high, it depends on how you view them.

I do like how they staggered the pick swaps, years into the future.

Ingram is someone I think they'll let go, when his rookie deal is up.
