And Seattle gets what???

.........

Yankees send minor league pitcher Juan Then to Seattle. Then, 19, was previously acquired by the Yankees from the Mariners in 2018.

Someone Seattle already had but had traded away. :L:L

What a fking shit show...

So in 2017 (according to ESPN article) the Mariners send Then, 19 to Yankees (No idea or heard about this trade back then)... for Rumblelow, now 2 years later, they are sending Encarnacion, the AL HR leader to the Yankees to re-acquire Then.

What the actual fuck are you doing Dipoto?

I guarantee if you hold onto Encarnacion by the trading deadline, he will get something much much better in return.

Dipoto had better hope Yankees did him a favor by developing this pitcher the last couple of seasons. FFS man.

The trade turns out to be Sears and Encarn for Rumbelow. You can't make this shit up DIPoto...lol.

I really dont see the problem with is lol we got Edwin E for free in the 3 team trade we had to eat up his contract and also acquired a competitive balance draft pick. Then traded him away and got a young pitching prospect.

People were upset that we were going into the season with Jay Bruces and Edwin encarnacions contract that we had on the books this year and next year and now we traded both away and people are upset that we traded him away? A 36 year old DH that bats .240 and only hits home runs isnt worth much I am glad we arent stuck with him anymore

I too hate those guys that knock in runs. Tied for 10th overall with some bum guy named Rizzo for the Cubs.

They may have similar numbers so far in the 2019 season but they are miles apart in terms of worth in the trade market

Payroll relief. It wasn't a trade for talent. it was a trade for payroll relief. Expect the same thing if Leake or Seager gets traded.

Now if Vogelbach gets traded, we should see some decent talent coming back our way because he only makes MLB minimum wage. But he also is defensively limited and can not run, so, he is pretty much a one-tool guy. So whatever we get for him probably won't be as much as you are expecting. Personally, I hope they keep him. But I'd also like to see what he could do in a little hitter's park like in Colorado or Phillie or Arlington.

I think this paragraph from Lookout landing roughly summarizes how I feel about this:

"For the Yankees, who maintain multiple DSL teams and have churned teenage fireballers out at record rates, the cost is bearable, and the privilege of acknowledging and addressing their baffling and embarrassing acquisition of Kendrys Morales is worth any price. Encarnación was the best bat on the market this year, thin as that market may have been. Returning a respectable pitching prospect for a 36-year-old slugger whose production had declined three years in a row prior to this season, then, is a palatable outcome. Considering Seattle is paying $7-8 million, Juan Then is the type of mid-level prospect in a decent system that fits the bill for the return. It’s not a slam dunk return, nor is it one meriting hand-wringing. It’s... about right."

Apparently the Rays were also interested, but didn't want to take on much money obviously because they're the Rays.

That being said I would've been in favor of paying more to send him to the Rays in return for a better prospect. For what it's worth, Juan Then slots in as the 16th best prospect in the Mariners farm system per MLB pipeline.

I think they hold on to Vogelbach. A guy like Domingo Santana is probably more likely to be moved due to the fact that he's only under control for 3 more years and the Mariners have more outfield prospects than we know what to do with.

I'm pretty biased because I think Vogelbach is my favorite player on the team for whatever reason I cannot pinpoint. With the Mariners likely to have Evan White near the majors sometime soon, I expect they anticipate making Vogelbach the full time DH and having White at first at some point.

Vogelbach is incredibly one dimensional, but I really like what he does at the plate.

I hope we keep Vogelbach as the DH. He's young and could be an important part of a rebuild-if Dipoto is capable of a decent rebuild and/or gets canned along with his sidekick.

It'll be really interesting to see who the next guy to get moved is.

Encarnacion and Bruce were two of the obvious candidates. Dee Gordon and Mike Leake are two of the others, but it seems as if Leake has been quite difficult to move and apparently he won't waive his full trade clause unless he thinks it's the best situation for him and his family. Dee Gordon's contract sucks, has played barely above replacement level, is on the wrong side of 30 and is playing in a time where teams value the long ball and walks - two things Gordon doesn't do.

I don't really see anyone on the roster who could bring a reasonable return unless they depart with someone who could possibly be a contributor in the "playoff window" that Dipoto envisions.

Sometimes I wonder if I will live to see this team play in a World Series.

Now that just makes too much good sense and I totally agree with you BUT It's Jerry Dipoto pulling the strings so making good sense is kind of a crapshoot at best with him as the GM

I wouldnt want to move any player on the team that are only in their mid 20s so no moving of Santana or Vogel. This is Vogels first year really coming out and hitting from the plate and is almost top 5 in the AL in home runs and Santana is top 3 in the AL in RBIs. Both these guys are only 26 we may have outfield prospects but none of them are ready to make their major league debut.
