They can fill out the team just fine with role players in the 23 to 27 mil range, but there's no effing way Kyrie or Kemba or Butler or whoever are gonna take pay cuts to fit under that range, especially if its 23 mil. A max level guy would taking a roughly 10 mil per year pay cut to fit in at that number. The 27 mil number it gets more possible but "more possible" here only means like a 2% chance or less because they'd still be passing up several millions of dollars year over year.

The way I see it, it all depends on what the player is after.

If they're only interested in money, there's no way they'd join the lakers when a handful of teams can and will offer a max

If they want a ring real bad, $27m might just be enough for somebody to consider it

Ainge is starting to look like ass as a GM. Brooklyn is about to surpass Boston as a team, and they were fleeced out of draft assets by Ainge about 5 years ago. Ainge should be on the hot seat. He needs to take a page out of Ujiri's playbook and start gambling.
Ainge is overrated as a GM.

I see Kemba is willing to take below max. Dude won in college maybe he takes a little less to get competitive

The difference between signing with Charlotte and signing with the Lakers is not a little less money. It's close to a hundred million less.

Lebron could have made a lot more in Cleveland than he could have in LA.

You think he came over for basketball reasons only?

Not really. Given Lebron's penchant for short term deals, Cleveland wasn't really able to offer him anything that the Lakers couldn't. He was getting a max deal with either team.

The Lakers were able to help him make Space Jam 2 though.

Yes it is a lot of scratch, if you are playing for money only.

Any player that says they aren't playing for money is lying.

That doesn't mean that they will always take the max contract but it is absurd to think that these players will turn down a king's fortune just to play in their preferred city or for a chance to maybe with a title.

Right. Which is a 100 million dollars. That's a lot of scratch.

No it's 81 million more for an extra year

My point is if he is willing to take say...5 year 180 that brings him a lot to closer to what a team can offer him over four.

You take 40 million a year on a mediocre team you're basically ensuring that team will not be competitive.

How much did Bosh give up to play in Miami?

The problem is that the Lakers can't offer him a max deal apparently until July 30th. That's a long time to wait and makes you completely beholden to the Lakers at that point so everyone else's dance card will be full by then.
