Nice trade for the Pens.

If Dubas wasn’t in on this for Zaitsev I’m asking questions. Kahun would’ve made a very nice Kadri replacement.

I am surprised they got anything for him. They really should have traded him at his highest point after the first cup but didn't. The bolded commend is @scoutyjones2 approved. :suds:

This made me chuckle

I should be surprised that GM's seem so high on signing Tyler Myers to a long, expensive contract but then I remember there was a bidding war for Jack Johnson last summer and it makes more sense.

These people just can't help themselves.

I remember when the Leafs dealt Kessel there it was reported that their first choice return was Maatta and second choice was Pouliot but the Pens hesitated on both and settled on Kapanen.

I'm very happy this was the case.

I don't blame you I would be also.
Sort of like the Penguins getting McCann who knew he would fit perfectly in the system. Lets hope he keeps it up.

Yeah I am not sure what they ever saw in Pouliot but Maatta has great awareness but his inability to skate above a snails pace will hurt him long-term. So I can see why they balked on Maatta due to his abilities outside of skating.

Finally with Kapanen I think they felt they were in win now mode and Kessel could get them their quicker and it seemed to work. Granted right now I would rather have Kapanen vs Kessel.

I still want to know who was in this magical bidding war for Jack Johnson outside for GMJR and his imaginary friend.

There was a lot of noise out there that Montreal was offering similar to what he got from the Pens.
Wow did not know that. If it wasn’t for the Crosby friendship I bet, or at least I hope he would have walked away.

The money is fine, just four years seems awfully long for Hagelin.

Saw that with Eakins. Hope for the Ducks sake he does better with the Ducks than he did with the Oilers.

How he did with the Oilers is a vast improvement to how the Ducks did under Carlye 2.0.

I just don't understand this one. As you said, the money's not bad at all, but Hagelin represents a certain brand. The guy wasn't effective in the playoffs. To me, this means either Vrana or Connolly isn't going to be signed now.

Wait, you can give a SECOND rounder to re-sign someone? Why was I not informed of this?

8 years. That's gonna look exponentially worse in the last 3 of this deal.

In two years SJ will have three defencemen making a combined $26 mil AAV, be aged 36, 34 and 31 and have 4, 5 and 6 years left on their deals.

Combined with their highest paid forward being 32 by then and their second highest paid forward pushing 30 and being Evander Kane, plus the possibility of Pavelski staying, the Sharks seem to be doing the Kings' "get as old as possible" strategy.
