Will AD want to be traded after this?

you can easily frame it both ways.

From the Pelicans point of view, they got the package they did with 1 year left on the guys contract and likely no other serious bidders.

In any trade, both GM's want to be able to go to the owner and say "We won the trade and here's why..."

Both Griffin and Pelinka can do that.

Griffin can tell Gayle Benson that he got some nice young talent, this years #4 pick and 2 future firsts all of which can be developed or used in other moves to improve the team for a guy who wasn't re-signing anyway.

Pelinka can tell Jeanie that they got a top 5-7 player who hasn't reached his prime yet to pair with Lebron, kept Kuzma and still have enough cap space to add some quality players around them.

But you are right- its doubtful that the picks are significant picks- but i am sure thats the same thing that Brooklyn thought- and that I even thought when Brooklyn made that trade.

Difference is, the guys Brooklyn got were washed. The guy the Lakers got hasn't hit his prime yet and is already arguably the best big in the game.

Why are (current) Lakers better than what AD + Jrue + Randle + Mirotic were last season?

How old is Bron exactly? (just to prevent the obvious answer)

LeBron has started to get old and unless he has a magic wand, it won't be long. He certainly isn't going to put his ego aside for AD or anyone else. I think AD will make the Lakers contenders, but not Champs. It takes a 'team' of horses to pull a stagecoach and they have to work together.

all depends on what the rest of the offseason looks like. It will be interesting to see what the final product is. With a fron court of Kuzma, Davis and Wagner- they probably still need 1 big who can play some defense--- but other than that they need to focus all their efforts on guards and wings. Guards and wings that can shoot the 3 and play some defense.

I've said that ages ago... I never could have imagined that the Lakers would decide on selling their entire organization to Klutch and Lebron...

Work out what?

Them trying to BUY a championship because they can't WIN one?

Who cares? It's the NBA that will loose... Still I hope the Bucks will bully them next season!

i don't if the guy's just a troll or brain dead, but the stuff he posts basketball-wise is straight up lunacy sometimes...

Why do people keep asking this when it's obviously both?

So....if Davis does not waive the 4M bonus, the Lakers have 23.7 in cap room

if he does they have 27.7

$27.7 is not close to a max contract for Butler or Kyrie or Walker etc.

its not like they have any contracts they have anyone they can cut to make more room.

So...im not sure what they do. Since they are under the cap they dont have the MLE. They dont have a pick.

They have Kuzma, Davis, LeBron, Wagner, Bonga and either about 24 or 28 million in cap space.......

Mostly true.

He should have made a move for Kawhi last summer and PG13 2 years ago.

That said, I do think he would have offered Tatum had AD not been adamant about Boston being a 1 year rental.

If Boston had a reasonable chance to keep Davis and Kyrie, Tatum was out the door along with what ever else it took.

As it played out, Ainge was right not to offer Tatum.

AD's agent said that about Boston from the start. Ainge still drew things out, promising Tatum in his offer this summer. Anyone who has been around for a bit as an NBA fan knew Ainge was full of crap.

I don't follow you... Ainge has absolutely been willing to make the big move in the past.

Going after KG is probably the most relevant (though by no means only) example. KG and his agent made a bunch of noise that they wanted no part of Boston and Boston should not go after him... Ainge pulled the trigger anyways.

It's almost a perfect parallel for the pre-trade conditions in this AD saga.

Right.

The difference is that minus Kyrie, the Celts don't have a contending core after dealing the pieces needed to land AD.

If they did, Ainge pulls the trigger and takes his chances.

There are likely multiple factors that held Ainge back... but I think the absolute sourness of AD and his camp towards the prospect of playing in Boston is what ultimately kept Boston from going all-in. Especially in the wake of Kyrie and the non-basketball negatives that a guy like that brings into the equation. It was creating a toxic environment.

That being said... I disagree with the idea that AD, Horford, Brown and Hayward is not a contending core (objectively speaking). But a sour AD who is not all-in... ?... that uncertainty probably killed things.
