better to have 10 darts to throw rather than 4, some have to stick right?

Also that 14th pick in the 3rd for moving back 10 spots is a no brainer.

Pre-Draft Analysis
Collier is a prototypical 4-3 LDE with excellent length and power. He improved his ability to locate the ball and get off blocks in 2018. He turned heads with his ability to overwhelm tackles and interior offensive linemen as a pass-rusher during Senior Bowl week. He chases with good effort and plays faster than timed speed.

Post-Draft Analysis
Defensive end was a need before the Seahawks traded Frank Clark to the Chiefs, and bolstering the run defense was critical. The Seahawks allowed 4.95 yards per rush last season, which ranked 30th in the NFL and was the most in franchise history. Collier is an excellent run defender who should step into a starting role as a rookie. -- Steve Muench

The darts become less likely to stick the further down you go, exponentially

We might just own the entire final 2 rounds of the draft before the day is out. That would make the usual grumps happy I'm sure!

I have to disagree.

First I hate to be that asshole, but Michael Bennett has never been listed above 280lbs. To my knowledge he has played in the 270s his entire career at 6'4.

I'm uncertain about Collier and I think he has potential, but the Seahawks haven't really had many hits with their first selection in recent years. I'm not including the 2018 draft because I'm biased and loved Penny before the draft and had no issue with us reaching for him and the verdict on that selection still remains to be seen.

2017: Malik McDowell: Bust. Can't blame them for this one so I didn't really want to mention this, but it is what it is.
2016: Germain Ifedi: Bust. He was a reach and has been awful. I'd be thrilled if the Seahawks drafted a replacement or started George Fant at RT instead.
2015: Frank Clark: That worked out and I wouldn't necessarily call him a reach. From what I remember was that he was a first round talent with character concerns because of his felony home invasion and domestic violence charges.
2014: Paul Richardson: Tough to tell on this because he suffered a lot of injuries and was productive enough in his lone-healthy year that he received a big contract from the Redskins.
2013: Christine Michael: Bust.
2012: Bruce Irvin: He was a reach but he ended up working out. I don't think we traded down here.
2011: James Carpenter: Bust. I was shocked to realize he was still in the NFL. He was a reach when we took him and was awful in pass protection and above average in run blocking for what it's worth.

More times than not, we've performed poorly in the first round.

Hindsight is always 20/20, and this is not a reason to criticize the selection of Collier, but you're wrong about people criticizing a first selection and being wrong. Irvin was really the only one you can say that about.

Well I could be wrong I should have fact checked that I assumed Bennett was 300+ pounds. I do disagree with the scrutiny of the 1st round picks yes they weren't all all pros but Carpenter and Richardson both left and received pay days from the Redskins and Jets and are still playing on rosters today. Bruce Irvin to me was not a bust and yea Mcdowell was hurt. Christine Michael was a bust for sure.

But I am not looking for LJ Collier to be Demarcus Lawrence but If he is a solid player that makes an impact on the defense even without the pro bowl selections its good enough for me.

Fair enough, not faulting you for not double checking. I felt like kind of a dick for pointing that out.

Perhaps my evaluation is off, but I was stunned to see James Carpenter get the money he did from the Jets. I never thought of him as anything more than mediocre at best. Paul Richardson I can understand a bit more because in his first fully healthy season, he had a good year but once again ended up getting hurt. Also aside from 2017 he didn't really do much for us.

I'm not criticizing the pick of Collier, but I do believe the Seahawks have a track record of messing up their first pick but compensating in the later rounds. On that issue I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree.

Hopefully the Hawks knock this one out of the water. They've received some great value trading down. I'm happy with the draft so far.

I have a feeling we wont see the best of Collier for 3+ years and his best will be starter quality borderline Probowl ( 3 years PLUS from now ), will the Hawks hold onto a 1st round pick that long that isn't starter Quality for the first 2 seasons? I don't think so but you never know.

Thanks for putting together @seahawksfan234

Nice to see we get 3 picks (for now) tonight... I really hope we take Metcalf Jr. at this point.

Eh I see him as an IMMEDIATE starter on run downs... he's got a fantastic bull rush and should collapse lines to help our #30 ranked YPC rush defense. He's not a replacement for Clark by any means... but I could see Seattle shift him in on passing downs.

He looks pretty long. I don't know much about him -- you think he could be a candidate to switch to CB?

K at this point Seattle is just trolling everyone... we should just trade all our future 1st/2nd/3rd round picks for 4th round prospects because that's all we can seem to draft.
