"Destiny" promo:
I watched the whole thing. Kinda dull. Not sure why this movie is getting the buzz it is.Ryan Reynolds and the studio trolling the audience with this viral marketing "full picture" promo:
I judge adults that are into this shit.
Just so you people know.
.Namely, it invokes an old trope of a disabled villain, which the entire plot hinges on motivated to do evil to escape disability, and cure tropes. This villain is shown about 15 minutes into the film. This is rather embarrassing given Pokemon was actually created by an autistic man wishing to share his love for bug collecting with people who did not live in the countryside. This is also not how the game had things, so this was an actual and conscious decision by screenwriters. No real way to sugarcoat it, it's a pretty ableist movie in a universe conceived, originally, by a disabled person.
The DP game. When you say how the games are you referring to the Detective Pikachu game this movie was based on or the original games(red/blue yellow that don’t really have much to do with this movie)? It follows the plot of The Detective Pikachu game pretty well outside of a few changes.
Also while yes we see the villain 15 minutes into the movie we don’t really know he’s the villain until I would say the last 15. The whole movie sets up the son to be the bad guy and the father to be the good guy when it reveals at the end that the son is actually a good person and it’s the dad that’s evil. That’s a pretty good twist considering where they led us up to that point. I don’t think anyone expected the dad to be using a Ditto in place of his son to make it seem like the son was the dickish asshole all along while the father presents himself as a savior to the people.
